There are unsubstantiated reports that Sharks GM Taejeonguy has finally pulled the trigger on a long anticipated deal centered around Steve Staios. The belief is that the Sharks have acquired a goalkeeper to push Cechmaniac into a backup position. Further, it has been whispered that the team's magic man in training is also about to pull a disappearing act.

Who is on the way out and who is on their way in? The Sharks have called a press conference for tomorrow that will likely address these unconfirmed reports.

The Sharks are pleased to announce the acquistion of Ilya Bryzgalov, Brooks Orpik, and Bryan Smolinski from the Philadelphia Flyers. Going the other way are Steve Staios, Robert Nilsson, Igor Grigorenko and a 07 2nd rd pick, plus a bit of cash.

The acquistion of a young, up and coming goaltender was of vital importance for the Sharks and at 25 we believe Bryzgalov has barely scratched the surface of his potential. We are also equally excited about acquiring Orpik who we feel will develop into a top 4 d-man and, if we can sign him, the acquistion of Smolinski will help to add a solid vetern presence.

The toughest part of this deal was letting Nilsson go. The Sharks organization feel that he will develop into a special player in the next couple of years but, frankly the urgent goalkeeping situation forced our hand. Losing Grigorenko, as he seems to have fully recovered now also is worrisome . We would also like to thank Steve Staios for his service; he gave all he had every game and is a true pro.

This trade, along with the recent signing of Mike Ricci and Tomas Holmstrom, gives the Sharks some proven leadership, some extra skill and will go a long way in helping the team improve. Changes are still coming and there are hopes of signing 1-2 more UFAs to further bolster our line-up.

In an effort to give newly appointed coach Ted Nolan more assets to work with up front and on defense, GM Noops has finally dealt what was supposed to be the teams future franchise goalie, Ilya Bryzgalov, to San Jose in a deal that involves 6 players, draft picks, and money being swapped.

GM Noops in his biggest deal since taking over the helm in Philly sends Bryzgalov, up and comer Brooks Orpik (part of that ménage a trios scandal), and the rights to Bryan Smolinski just acquired last week for Defensive stalwart Steve Staios (78 DF), super stud Robert “Magic Junior” Nilsson, and the highly touted but a questionable prospect in Igor Grigorenko. The Flyers also see a draft pick and cash come their way.

“We were still working to shore up the teams defense and we were able to do that by bringing in a great hitter in Stevey Staios. We were also able to get Robert Nilsson, who will help the team up front next year and more importantly fits the Flyers development plan in an attempt to becoming a dynasty in the CPHL.” GM Noops commented.

This trade now gives the Flyers five stars to boast that were drafted in the amazing draft of 2003; Dustin Brown (13th), Robert Nilsson (15th), Eric Fehr (18th), Ryan Getzlaf (19th), and Shea Weber (49th).

“We feel great about finally getting this deal done. Brian from the Sharks was tough, but after two weeks of negotiating we were finally able to come to an understanding. We wish Brian, Ilya, Brooks, and Bryan the best of luck in the future.” Noops said. “What makes me feel great about this deal and the teams other transactions throughout the off season is that we have been able to bring in Nils Ekman, Keith Primeau, Sandis Ozolinsh, Andrew Cassels, Adam Foote, Niklas Sundstrom, and now Steve Staios and Robert Nilsson without having to trade away any of our core players: Getzlaf, Brown, Gilbert Brule, Weber, Duncan Keith, and Josh Harding.”

It looks like were putting together a pretty decent team and we have more moves on the way!
