Just a quick question wanting to know if anyone is going to the game this Sunday against the Rebels and if they are only going because of the lockout.

Me personally, if I wasn't working that game, I would go because of the NHL lockout, but if there was an NHL season, I don't think I would want to go to that game

i would like to go but i live an hour and a half away so i wont . Ive never actually been to a hitmen game or a drumheller dragons game but i would like to attend one or both. Its weird now that ive thought about it going to so many flames games yet no juniors O_o

I am going, and I would have regardless of the lockout.

So whats the status of Phaneuf then, will he be playing in red deer again this year or is he going to the AHL now that he signed a contract?

I'm going only cause some free tickets came in the prize pack thing from that street hockey tournament a few weeks ago. Last Hitmen game I was at was when Krahn made his return from his injury, so it's been awhile...

I'll probably take advantage of the package offered to Flames season ticket holders and try to make it out to the game. What time on Sunday does it start?

Is Bret Hart still involved with the team?

Not for several years now. The Calgary Hitmen are 100% owned by the Calgary Flames ownership group.

The team still uses Hart as a publicity tool from time to time.

Just checked on ticketmaster. Still loads of tickets in the lower level for this thing...and I've noticed they've been promoting the hell out of the Hitmen of late, what with no NHL hockey.

I know it's going to be nothing next to the size and volume that would have been the Flame's home opener this year, but I guess I was expecting a little bit more interest in the Hitmen this year with no NHL to look forward to in a city that had such a friggen hardon for hockey during the spring.

I wonder how long it'll take before hockey-starved Calgarians start banging down the doors to watch sup-par hockey.

meh, I got my tickets. Hitmen games are always entertaining.

Well, the Hitmen drew 6941 to last years home opener, which was actually about 500 fans fewer than their final season average. The Hitmen tend to draw larger crowds more towards the end of the season.

Even if they draw just 8000 for this game, that is still about a 15% increase over last year. That is huge.

The Flames are like that too. They tend to have higher attendance later on in the season. That was the case in each of the seven straight seasons when we missed the playoffs. I was puzzled at first since by this time the Flames are way out of a playoff race, but apparently, this is common throughout the league (in general)

I would be going, regardless, but I have a wedding show to attend on Sunday. (Bah, but I guess that it's important to book some work for next year....maybe)

I will, however, be attending the Rebels home opener against the Hitmen on Friday night.

Well, Dion is playing so that can't hurt. I know I've never seen him play outside of the World Juniors and I've never seen him live.

I'm going because one of the reasons I moved to Calgary was to watch my favourite team. Since the NHL took that away, I still want to see some games in person.
