Hey guys. I just downloaded this music sharing deal called imesh... its great, you can download an entire album in about 30 seconds... the only problem is all the files are coded or something so im not able to flip it all onto my itunes... when i try tranfering the files it says something like "The songs are in the protected WMA format"... is it at all possible to get around this?? and if so how?

thanks for any tips

That file has DRM - it means the person bought the track from some place like Napster, Yahoo or Puretracks. I've read of a few programs to get around it, but I have not run across anything that does it for free (although with a bit of looking you can probably find something). It is much more difficult since you don't have the original license.

And be careful of iMesh - it is renowned as being a leading source of adware and spyware. A year ago they were one of the worst (and got a lot of bad publicity) but they may have cleaned up their act lately. (Googling "imesh spyware" gets 770,000 hits)

Try allofmp3.com . It ends up costing about $1.50 a CD, but it is still technically legal, very easy to use, and you get great quality(you choose the bit-rate), drm-free mp3s. No need to worry about spyware, bad files, or any of that.

Consider allofmp3.com

It's an Itunes like music service from Russia that costs about 10 cents a song.

Archaic file sharing software like Imesh or Kazaa are poor alternatives.

To get around that copy protection. Use a CD-R (or a CD-RW if you don't want to waste a perfectly fine CD-R), burn the MP3 onto the CD-RW as an audio disk, Rip it to your computer using Itune. Time consuming, but it works.

They can be a bit tricky. If you are behind a router, you'll have to port forward. There are more and more ISPs blocking BT traffic too. BT actually kills my router (which I have to use, since it is my Vonage adapter as well) after about a half hour, and I have to recycle it.

Go with allofmp3.com, no headaches!

utorrent makes the bt traffic incognito, so shaw doesn't burn your ass.

True. Out east here Rogers has blocked BT traffic. Unless you forward to your port that they have designated for VoIP ... then there is no way for them to tell....

Good stuff...

I haven't used BT in months because it became such a pain in the ass and so slow for me.. but I have heard good things about uTorrent.

Where do you get your torrent files from though? I don't even remember where to look anymore.
