Can he? I thought the buyout window closed.

I think the deadline is today. You can waive and buy out today.

Could be a fit in CGY.

Jason Dickinson is arb eligible, which would give them another window as well

Would rather Ulmark or Brossoit

He can be bought out in the second buyout window if they don’t make it.
Clubs whom have 1 or more arbitration filings may be permitted to perform a buyout outside of the regular window. This gives teams another opportunity to become cap compliant following an arbitration case.

Would rather Ulmark or Broissoit

Won't argue about Ullmark, he's the goalie I hope they sign.

But, Holtby will likely be really cheap. And Broussoit is kinda meh to me.

All in all, he's an option I wouldn't complain about.

Can't see it myself although it would be outstanding to have a Cup winning goalie to throw in there should Markstrom go down to injury. Is he ok with bench warming for league minimum as Darryl rides his starters hard? Is Markstrom okay with inviting a goalie with a similar starting mentality and not have it be awkward?

I wouldn't mind Jones as a backup. He needs to get his confidence back, he didn't suddenly go from a high end starter to garbage because he suddenly forgot how to play.

Yes it’s today.

For the 2021 off-season, the buyout period begins 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends. It concludes on July 27 at 5 pm EST.

Doesn’t a player need to be waived a day in advance though?

I'm trying to find the post - maybe cap friendly? - that explains that you can do both (waive/buy out) today.

I wouldn't mind Holtby as a backup, but I see him going to a team where he still has a chance to be a starter in a bad situation (Buffalo?) or a contender as a backup. I don't see why he would want to sign with a middle pack team as a backup.

Lost of cheap #2 options for CGY. Keen to see what they do.

On the contrary, I am of the opinion that he got Space Jammed by some aliens after the Finals with Pittsburgh and that he will never be the same.. stay away, damaged goods.

He has posted the same 0.898 SP for three straight years now, and in one of those years SJ was a 100-point team that won two playoff rounds. I think there is a very good chance that this is what he is now.

I wonder if Jones ends up in Vancouver for cheap. He's from BC, and Ian Clark might be able to fix up his game...

Bring both Jones and Getzlaf back home.

Good point.

Both of these goaltenders are finished. If Ian Clark couldn't salvage Holtby he's not likely going to perform better in Calgary or anywhere else. Jones is one of the worst goaltenders in the NHL.

Could see Jones go to Vegas now. They need a cheap backup and it wouldn’t move Jones to far from the Bay Area.

He also played for years for DeBoer.

Wow... Holtby crashed hard after leaving Washington and winning the cup, has he lost his confidence after losing his starter job in Washington. Or is it because his body just can't handle the workload anymore. I'd take either goalie as backup to markstrom on a cheap deal of course through

You can argue he played a role in DeBoer getting fired.

Jones and Holtby are terrible and they have been terrible for years. No thanks

Lots of goalies on the free agency carousel. However, lots of teams needing one as well.

Should be able to get a good backup for cheap, as long as they time the market well.

Where?

Would he end up that much cheaper than Holtby?

What happened to multiple teams wanting Holtby lol

I don't think I'd mind Holtby, to be honest, but for sure the bigger takeaway here is that there are going to be a lot of cheap and decent back-up options for the Flames. Great news if the team doesn't need to allocate a lot of cap to that position.

I thought Barca said there was a line up of teams looking at Holtby????
For posterity:
...The Canucks are also moving Holtby...

lots of interest in Schmidt and Holtby...

For posterity:

Apparently a lot of teams were interested in Holtby, but they told the Canucks to retain 1.5 million or they'd just sign him after they bought him out.

Here we are!

It actually seems crazy that one game against Vegas literally broke Jones mentally to the point where he's been horrible since then.

He was actually a really good goalie up to that point.

If I caught it right, Holtby to Dallas and Jones to Philly (as per Fan 960 just now).
