wow Lou is going crazy

now
Hearing #isles are working on a deal that would reunite Zach Parise and GM Lou Lamoriello. Not done yet.

Frank Seravalli @frank_seravalli
Sounds like Andrew Ladd may be part of the package going to #mnwild from NYI.

wow I called this one!

Beware of secondary sources but I'm seeing tweets about a media availability in Minnesota by Wild beat reporter Michael Russo, who reportedly had this to say on a radio hit:

- Mikko Koivu has been asked to waive his NMC
- An Eastern team reportedly has strong interest in Zach Parise (my guess? The Islanders)
- Guerin is fielding offers on Dumba and Brodin

Did they not learn anything about acquiring aging gritty wingers after they signed Ladd?

Edit: Ladd part of deal makes more sense

Going to be some decent $$ retained on this deal I'd imagine.

NYI better be compensated greatly if they are taking on that contract. Wowsers

Damn. That's a big move but a really big contract for what he brings. I'm sure the Wild would retain salary.

Wow. Wild get away from one of the long term contracts

Isnt he still signed until the end of time? Why would anyone take that contract?

Parise is willing to waive no-move is this comes to fruition. It’s a complicated trade. Talks have been ongoing with #mnwild since last summer and revived lately. Ladd would have been the return last summer

Damn I wanted Parise to be stuck with the Wild until that stupid contract was over. That contract was one of the first 10+ year contracts that really caused things to snowball and the league to step in and place limits on the length. It's blown up in the Wild's face and forced them to be stuck in mediocrity for a long time.

There's still 5 years left after, and the Wild are going nowhere as long as it's on the team. I hope the deal falls through and the Wild are forced to keep him.

bad contract swap. Curious what isles had to throw in on this?

Andrew Ladd apparently going back.

Okay that actually makes sense then. Still big big money but I can definitely see why 20 goal Parise makes a lot of sense over AHLer Ladd for a team that is clearly going for it right now

TheScorpion
02-24-2020, 10:34 AM
For what it's worth, Parise is still damn good. 21 goals this year in 61 games. That contract stinks but wow he's gonna be fun to watch with Barzal. Might give the Isles some swagger.

Ladd signed until 2023 with 5.5m caphit but only another 3m in real money after this year. Comes with a modified NTC according to capfriendly.

Parise is a 7.5m caphit until 2025 and is owed 18m until then after this year with a NMC every year.

Will be interesting to see who ads.

Parise is the better player, but 3 years left vs 5 years and Ladd has the cheaper cap hit.

Reminder that there is a cap recapture penalty associated with Parise if he retires before the contract is up:

Lee - Barzal - Eberle
Parise - Nelson - Bailey
Beauvillier - Pageau - Brassard
Martin - Cizikas - Clutterbuck
Komarov/Dal Colle

Forwards have been the weak part of the Isles this year but they're suddenly looking a LOT better.

Not saying it's done (and now that it's out, LL may decide it's dead), but heard Parise has waived his NTC and is ready to go. Wants to join the #Isles.

Honestly I have a ton of respect for Lou pulling a complete "#### it" trade like this

You're mistaken. Ladd's remaining salary is just north of 3M, but he still has 9M in signing bonuses for a total owed of 12M beyond this year.

Parise has 18M owed following this year.

Parise has 21 goals this year. Ladd is in the AHL. If the Islanders don't add substantially this would be nothing less than a coup for New York.

I wouldn't say substantially, they have to add to Ladd for sure, but they are still taking a heap of a contract back.

Isles potentially gaining cap hit in this deal and about to sign Pageau to a long term deal. Could leave them open to a Barzal offer sheet this summer.

Just saying, they need to be careful

Looks like it didn't go through:

Michael Russo @RussoHockey
now
Bill Guerin presser is at 2:45, so that would also make it appear the Parise trade didn't go down. In addition to Parise waiving no-move, @FriedgeHNIC reported Andrew Ladd waived no-trade to come to Minnesota.

So appears complicated deal broke down late

Probably still some other common denominators in the front-office?

The only thing we can be 99% sure of is that this didn't come out from the NYI side.

Could be coming from the agents since they’d have been involved with the NTC’s.

would you make this trade for Parise for Lucic? Lucic has a similar contract value to Ladd

Parise clearly the better player, but 5 years, $7.5 AAV and $29M in real dollars. What happens if Parise falls off a cliff in two years, and you are left with 3 years at a higher AAV than what Lucic or Ladd is currently owed?

Seems very risky and short sighted for NYI.

I wouldn't make this trade for Ladd (or Lucic) unless there were significant concessions (salary retention) by the Wild
