@DarrenDreger
Pageau to Isles for a 1st in 2020 that shifts to a 1st in 2021 if the Isles pick in top 3 of the June Draft. No conditions on 2nd round pick in 2020. Conditional 3rd if the Isles win the Stanley Cup this year only.

I identified a 3C as one of the Islanders' top needs heading into today
Wouldn't be surprised if they paid a pretty penny to fill that void.

I would guess 1st is lottery protected. Second is if he signs his next contract with Isles and third is based on how far they get in playoffs.

Still, a 1st and 2nd are still solid picks.

That's a crazy payment on the surface. It seems like this guy really came out of nowhere this year, on a bad Sens team. I may be guilty in being pretty ignorant about Ottawa's players, so maybe he's been good for a few years.

I'd say the return is about the same.
Brannstrom = 1st
2nd = 2nd
wildcard is the conditional 3rd, but if they win the cup who cares.

The likelihood of the 3rd is quite low, but even a 1st and 2nd for Pageau is quite a haul.

Just for reference the Isles could have signed an RFA to an offer sheet this past summer for a 2020 1st, 2nd, and 3rd if the AAV was between $6,341,153-$8,454,871.

I feel like this trade and the Coleman trade are both possibly better returns than what Stone returned last year (both are close or better to the Hall trade return too)

Agree with this. Coleman at least has a year remaining at a great cap hit. Make me nervous if the flames are interested in someone with term, if the prices are this high.

Brannstrom was a top 15ish prospect at the time
The pick is likely in then 16-22 range
Stones return was better, this is a great return though
Wow. An over payment I wouldn't have made. Good for Sens.

Stone is definitely better by nature of getting Brannstrom.
Coleman looks great on its own but that would be for a top 9 20 goal scorer at a ridiculously low cap price with an extra year compared to UFAs. Different deals.

Dorion has done a great rebuild jobLet's not get ahead of ourselves. He has done a good job getting the raw materials necessary for a rebuild, but he still has to turn all of these into a competitive team before the rebuild can be assessed.

Awful by Lamoriello. If I was Treliving i'd be offering him everything we have to see what he's willing to pay.

Good grief did the Sens ever cash in on a career year from Pageau at the right time.
I'm not sure if the cost to aquire Pageau is going to increase the prices for other rentals or if GMs buying are just going to say "Lou is senile, I'm not overpaying for your player like he overpaid for Pageau".

But he is not going to fall off of a cliff. Pageau may never improve on his totals this year, but he is a good bet to be a long-term 45-point player, and that's still really valuable.

Cripes. I would have given that without much thought. He's worth at least that much if not more on the open market, and 5 years is a pretty fair ask.

It's more like the Stone one. I just think when you do that move you hand the leverage over to the player in the extension negotiation.

While that price is massive, Pageau is an outstanding underrated disciplined two-way player who plays well above his size and who will help the Islanders tremendously. Have to think they knew an extension was a formality when they paid that. Nice piece of work, but still don't think the Islanders make it deep.
Was hoping the Flames would take a run at him, but obviously not in that range.
Get the extension done now, so they can determine if they can complete the trade for Parise.
