Canadiens Montréal @CanadiensMTL
The Canadiens have acquired St. Louis’ second-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft (and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2021), in exchange for defenseman Marco Scandella.

Chris Johnston @reporterchris
The conditions on the Scandella trade: If STL re-signs him prior to Oct. 7, 2020, or if they win two rounds and he plays in at least half of the games in the first two rounds, MTL gets a fourth in 2021.

Defensemen dropping like flies.

A little concerning if the Flames can't capitalize on this active market somehow.

The Canadiens traded a fourth-round pick for Marco Scandella a little over a month ago and just got a second and a conditional fourth back for him.

How are they supposed to do that when your #1 D is injured, Hamonic is injured, leaving Brodie helping to hold things together.

Fantastic asset management

By adding! There are clearly bargains to be had, look at what DeMelo fetched.

Interesting the price was higher for Scandella than DeMelo... I'll attribute that to Dorion.

I'm not exactly sure what they are trying to build in Montreal but that's pretty good asset management.

So your talking add not sell, sorry my misunderstanding.

Tragic then that Hamonic is hurt and/or Treliving won't move him anyway.

At least Scandella got to live his dream and play for the Canadiens (albeit for a month). If he also dreamed of winning a Stanley Cup I might have good news for him there too.

Wonder if the Flames could be in on Jake Gardiner, who has term and has been rumoured to be on the block in Carolina.

To me that would be a massive "why?" acquisition.

And that’s probably the reason for a 2nd. Solid asset management by Montreal. Wonder what Kovalchuk can garner

I will laugh, bemusedly, if Calgary misses out on nabbing DeMelo for a 3rd and instead trades a 2nd for Kovalchuk.

The canadiens have 12 picks in the coming draft.

3 in the 2nd round.

Wonder if Bergevin is around to actually make those picks, though. Ownership might be losing their patience.

How many bilingual GM's in waiting are out there to replace him?

I feel like Montreal won't actually move Kovalchuk (I could be wrong, but just a gut feeling) and will resign him. They are loaded up on picks and Kovalchuk has fit in better than anyone could have hoped for.
