Doesn't sound like either of our defenseman are ready to come back soon.

Paraphrasing here but Ward was on the Fan 960 and said:

"Last time Giordano got this injury it took him 6 weeks to come back, and it's been two weeks, Hamonic is even longer. The pain for him is just starting to go away..."

So that puts Gio's return at Mid-March, and likely means Hamonic can't return until closer to the end of the season, if we assume he's a week or two longer.

So in terms of implications on the trade deadline this really prohibits the Flames from selling either of our UFA d-man. No way to trade Hamonic if he's injured, and can't move Brodie with Gio and Hamonic both out.

My guess is the move the Flames look at will be for a depth d-man. Maybe somebody like DeMelo.

This year has been nothing short of cursed.

- Kadri blocks the trade
- Valimaki injured during off-season
- Brodie's on-ice collapse
- Peters' off-ice calamity
- Giordano missing somewhere around 6 weeks during crunch time
- Hamonic missing somewhere around 6-8 weeks during crunch time

Dear Good Karma,

Show us what you got.

So what could've been 1st or 2nd for Harmonic, we will now get nothing, or like Gio, he'll be gone during our important stretch drive. This season sucks.

Feels very much 08/09 Calgary Flames.

Hopefully we don't make horrible roster decisions in the offseason to overcompensate.

No kidding. Cap space is a valuable return these days. Let Hamonic walk. Let Brodie walk.

Maybe they get late picks for their rights but I doubt it. Still, thats darn near $10M in space.

That pretty much means a quiet deadline for the Flames

Predictions:

- Trade for a d-man, likely not as high profile as Alec Martine because...
- Valimaki back in two weeks (prediction)
- Solid top 6 forward with term left for prospect and pick, will be someone nobody has mentioned much

Devil's advocate:

- We've been the third luckiest team (https://twitter.com/ManGamesLostNHL?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5E serp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor) in the league for injuries so far. Of course this doesn't account very well for the unknown of Valimaki. We likely missed out on seeing Kylington at RD, or an LD trade much earlier in the season to address another need.

- The Peter's calamity might be the luckiest thing to happen to this team all year.

- The Brodie thing sucked, but it's also the kind of thing that could/should bring a team together

- Obviously the Kadri deal could have been great. Biggest downside is the impact on the guys who thought they were getting moved, and the general disappointment of no big change to address team needs.

It certainly hasn't been a boring year, but I think lots of teams have faced as much/more adversity.
