The Friday Valentine's OOT is an early and quiet one with no games in the Mountain and Pacific time zones. There is one western intra-conference game and that has implications on the playoff race.

Sorensen scored the Sharks goal in the first period and it is still 1-0 San Jose midway through the second period. The Jets only have five shots on goal so far!

So Michael Ferland dressed for Utica today but didn’t return to bench after first period as he has concussion like symptoms. At this point you just hope he can live a healthy life.

Zucker two goals tonight

Looks like Zucker has 2 goals assisted by Crosby so far

Yeah it was only a matter of time before Zucker started cashing in playing with Sid.

The Jets score a pair of goals in 86 seconds apart midway through the second period. It is 2-1 Jets after forty minutes.

The Rangers scored 22 seconds into the game and then the BJs tied it late in the second period.

The Hurricanes lead 4-1 early in the third period.

This is not good for Ferland. I hope he's alright and I'm thinking maybe he should consider walking away from the game with the persisting concussions. There's much bigger things in life than hockey.

It would give a higher chance of relapse too.
All angles would indicate walking away is the best course imo.

Ugh. That sucks. Maybe time to call it a career. He's made some pretty good dough to fall back on and his long term health is more important than the game.

Georgiev is gonna be a hell of a goalie too.
If we didnt have a number two already id love to acquire him.

Merzlikins too by the looks of it.

Yup. Tho i think the bjs are using him and valuing him as a number one already.
Rangers i dont think are there yet with Georgie

Sharks 2 minutes away from doing the Flames a favour by beating the Jets in regulation

Sucks about Ferland. I can't imagine how anyone in their right mind would allow him to play again with his history.

Jets pour it on at the end but SJ wins 3-2.

I'm confused. Canucks aren't playing tonight??

Jets are really falling off the playoff chase. 5 Pacific teams in the playoffs is getting more and more likely.

He was sent to Utica on Tuesday on a Conditioning Loan. This was his first game since December 10.

Georgiev is darn good but Shesterkin might be even better. Rangers have an embarrassment of riches at the position.

Scared of St Louis and Colorado, but I think we can beat any other team in our conference. It might just be a year to load up and try to make a run. Looking to be the easiest path to at least the conference final in more than a decade.

Almost still worth kicking tires for Georgie. Talbot isnt a long term solution and if we can still get him decently cheap do it.

Georgiev is darn good but Shesterkin might be even better. Rangers have an embarrassment of riches at the position.8.5M for Lundqvist for his last season next year. It would have been perfect timing for the Rangers if this was his last one, but it's not the worst thing in the world to have him around one more year to guide the young goalies.

I'm confused. Canucks aren't playing tonight??

Someone mentioned it, but his game was with Utica, where he was sent for a conditioning stint. Tonight was his very first game back.

Rangers will be looking to run that tandem for a while, that’s why they’re letting Lundquist be their third goalie not even starting on a back to back while one of the other two are hurt.

Ferland's career is done. What an absolute shame for the guy. Much like his last game with the Canucks, there was no big thing that happened to set it off. Just regular course of play.

I feel bad for him. He has been through a lot, fought and beat his demons and had success at the NHL level. I think it is time to retire. Always appreciated his contributions with the Flames. Good luck, Michael.

Ferland was a great contributor for the Flames, but unfortunately his health was his achilles heel when he was here, and it seems at this point it has dictated the fate of his career.

Ferly fought a lot in junior. It has obviously taken its toll on him.

Hope he still gets his money.

Seems like a legitimately good guy.

He should still get paid. He likely just goes to Robidas island.

Wow, the Sharks did the same thing the Jets did, score 2 goals in under 90 seconds. Meier scored the GWG and the Jets remain a point back of the 8th place Coyotes. Hellebucyk wasn't happy that the Sharks 1st goal counted. From the Sportsnet link,

"If they didn't push my pad off, I would have just covered it," he said. "It would have been a simple play. But they threw me completely off and one guy, there was two sticks, one guy pushed me off the post, which was my anchor, and the other guy pushes my pad straight in. I'm trying to hold my balance and fight it but there's really no play for me to make."

As mentioned earlier, Zucker had a great game with 2 goals. Crosby with 3 assists and Jarry stopped 34 shots. The Penguins are closing in on the Capitals and Bruins for 1st place in the eastern conf. The Habs are stumbling and can't rely on Price every game.

The Rangers are improving at the right time with a 7-3-0 record in the past 10 games. They are now back in the playoff race just 7 points back of the BJs and Flyers. The BJs out shot the Rangers 22-7 in the 2nd period with Georgiev stopping all those shots. Kreider had 1g and 1a.

Mrazek was the reason the Hurricanes won. The Devils fired 37 shots at him. The PK was perfect at 4/4 for Carolina and the win keeps the Hurricanes in the thick of the eastern conf. playoff race.
