I realize that there's an NBA thread, but this is one the biggest tragedies in basketball of our lifetime. Should have its own thread.

Trae Young wearing #8 today.

Looks like all teams took 24 second shot clock violations. Atlanta took an 8 second violation.

Brazilian soccer star Neymar scored a goal for Paris Saint Germain and afterwards flashed with his fingers 2 4 in memory of Bryant.

I was a huge Kobe fan... Made this childhood knick fan a laker fan.

This is absolutely horrible news. For their daughter to also be lost is beyond words.

Thoughts and prayers to his family. RIP Kobe, black mamba. You will be sorely missed.

Ugh..a friend texted me the actual video of the helicopter going down and the ensuing crash, just awful. I can't even imagine what would be going through your head in those final moments, especially while trying to console your daughter. Gut-wrenching

Is it this one? That’s a different crash that happened in the Middle East. The uploader is just looking for attention.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qSLiIQcRbtwYep that's it. Why am I not surprised to hear about the attention thing.. can't believe some of the tweets I've read today. And not just the trolls either, but many people who according to their bios consider themselves to be social justice warriors too. Sickening.

Even if someone takes issue with his past, or how much more heavily weighted a celebrity's death is; "people die every day", blah blah.. there's a time and a place. Can't believe how many don't grasp that. I need to stay off social media for a bit I think. RIP

It's one thing when you get a Roy Halladay situation where the athlete is tragically killed in an accident. But when you have the athlete and one of their children, and another family it's really tragic.
