I wonder if the Sabres can beat the Kings? They've fallen massively since that 10 game streak and have been pretty terrible (though their overall standing is still very good).

Then again, it's not very surprising if you study their advanced stats.

Even in the Sabres 10 game win streak, there were warning signs.

Their advanced stats were quite ####ty even during that streak and have also been getting propped up by good to great goaltending all year, mostly from Hutton.

Agreed, while I think Hamilton is better than his offensive production has shown he was benefitting immensely from the flames system and their usage of him. The Canes don’t even use him much on the PP. Which makes me wonder, why did they trade for him in the first place. Take Hamilton off the pp and you are left with a pretty average Dman imo. Hanifin just does everything better outside of shooting the puck.

Hamilton's offense benefits greatly from a from forwards that are good at tipping the puck or getting rebounds like Tkachuk or Monahan because his biggest strength is probably his ability to get a shot on net. I'm not sure Carolina has too many of those guys.

FFS, this Oilers game is gonna end 1-0, isn't it. Early 2000's-era trap hockey appears to work in today's NHL. Who knew? Sadly this style of play might actually get the Oil into a wildcard spot or higher if they keep this up.

That's so premature.

I always wait to see a goalie go through a rough patch and see how well they can rebound from it before calling any one starter quality. Often you can get guys like the hamburglar that are hot off of the start for a stretch but then irrelevant later on once they've gone through the motions and been lit up a couple times. Costco nun hasn't faced his adversity yet, and he's not going to be on a hot streak forever.

They're 100% riding the new coach bump right now. But that roster is what it is and there's no way an outdated system can mask those warts for long before they revert to what they are.

It's amazing how he just keeps scoring goals.

I dont see it stopping even as he slows down more either, hes adapted his game so well, when he was young he was so good off the rush and with his speed

He still has that a bit, but his positioning in the offensive zone is so good now, and that power play spot he has seems unguardable based on the fact that hes done it there for 10 years and no one can stop him

I really think he wants to pass gretzky

CroFlames

If he finishes 2nd or 3rd all time in goals (seems almost inevitable), and wins maybe one more Cup, I wonder if the conversation starts up again about Crosby vs Ovechkin.

Ovechkin was considered better the first 3 years of their careers, then Crosby firmly took the lead. Ovi is making a late career resurgence though.

We are lucky to have watched both these guys simultaneously. And it’s not over yet!

Some of the games of note had the Panthers and Blues score 6 goals in the 3rd period. It was 1-0 Florida in the 1st period and that was the score heading into the final period. The Blues scored 2 goals in 11 seconds early in the 3rd period to get going and eventually win 4-3 in reg time. Both teams were perfect on the PK.

The Coyotes had 2-0 lead over the Bruins heading into the 2nd period and then the Bruins turned it on scoring 4 goals in that period and won 4-3 in reg time and no goals in the 3rd period. Marchand, Krejci, and Pastrnak each had 3 points.

The Predators enjoy playing eastern conf. teams as they are 9-0-0 this season against them. Nashville beats the Senators 3-1. Ottawa started the game right by scoring 26 seconds into the game and that was it for the Sens. Both teams were perfect on the PK.

Ovechkin with a hat trick and Backstrom had 4 assists, the Capitals topple the Red Wings 6-2. The Red Wings fired 37 shots on Holtby, but, it was Detroit's goaltending that was the problem. Bernier let in 5 goals on 15 shots.
