Game Time: Friday, August 19th 8:00pm at BC Place
Televised: TSN and ESPN3
This is the 3rd game this season between the BC Lions and the Calgary Stampeders. BC Lions won on Week 1 20-18 after trailing Stampeders all game only to come back in the 4th quarter. In Week 6, it was the Stampeders who were trailing all game but came back in the 4th quarter to win 44-41.
This game is the season series for these two team.
OFFENSE:
QB Bo Levi Mitchell completed for over 300 yards every game except Game 1 and last week's game. He was 2 yards shy of 300 yards against Saskatchewan last week and also broke his streak of throwing at least a TD in consecutive games. Mitchell ended up with 18 completed pass on 31 attempts for 298 yards with no TD and 1 INT.
RB Jerome Messam had a decent game rushing 7 times for 27 yards and 1 TD. He also caught a pass from Mitchell and ran for 63 yards before losing the ball for a fumble. SB Marquay McDaniel had a back-to-back over 100 yards receiving against the Riders. McDaniel caught 8 passes for 110 yards. R Greg Wilson who had a great game against BC in Week 6 scoring 2 TDs had a bad game last week dropping some passes and also getting hurt. Looks like Stamps just put Wilson on a 1 game injured list and he will be replace by R Davaris Daniels on the roster.
Stamps OLine is 1st in the CFL in protecting the QB being sack. They only allowed 10 QB sacks. Not bad considering their starting 5 only played together a game or two.
DEFENSE:
Stampeders Defense conceded fewer than 20 points in 3 of the last 4 games. They are 3rd best in the CFL for allowing the least amount of points per game.
DE Charleston "Sackmaster" Hughes had a huge game last week as far as getting through the QB. Hughes sacked Darian Durant 3 times and also helped with 6 tackles. MLB Taylor Reed led the defensive tackles with 7 and also 1 QB sack. DB Tommie Campbell, Brandon Smith and LB Deron Mayo only had 6 tackles. DE Frank Beltre collected 2 defensive tackles, 2 special team tackles and 1 QB sack.
SPECIAL TEAM:
Returner Roy Finch continues to amaze the Stamps fans. Finch returned the Missed field goal by Riders for 41 yards and return punts 6 times for 102 yards and one of them is for 44 yards.
Kicker Rene Paredes had a perfect 4 for 4 in field goal attempts again against the Riders. He's been money on field goal attempts this season but struggles on convert after the TD.
************************************************** *********
It is probably going to be a shootout again in BC Place. Stamps D can probably avoid that by going after Jennings a lot more in this game. Jennings is a good QB and he's got some talented receivers to throw to. I hope they pressure him a lot more and hopefully he hurries his throws and makes mistakes. Looking forward to this game.
