Should be a great tournament on a really tough course.

It is off to a slow start due to rain and a weather delay but the forecast looks good for the rest of the weekend. I'm pulling for Mickleson to finally win a US Open. If he is at the top of his game I think he can beat the nastiness of the course but if he isn't hitting it well he can very quickly post some huge numbers.

Fox Sports is providing coverage of the US Open and I must say that I really don't like their coverage thus far. I just don't think the commentators have the knowledge or expertise.

Their coverage last year wasn't great, but with this being their second year for it I imagine there will have been some improvements

It's pretty much a Thursday tradition for some total nobody to be leading the tournament. So enjoy it Andrew Landry, he'll probably shoot 82 tomorrow and miss the cut.

Boo! Hiss! Taking valuable TSN time away from the Euro cup!

I love watching DeChambeau play. Such an unusual swing and style of play. It is amazing to see what he can do.

No Canadians in the field and no Tiger. Ratings in Canada will suck bad.

There was a time where I wouldn't miss any round of any major, now I would rather watch CNN or baseball.

Ratings looking like they'll suck in the US too. Rory already out of it and Jordan falling down the leaderboard too.

It's going to be an awesome jam packed day of golf! The USGA/Fox live stream is great for those of us at the office:

I don't know, DJ is looking good and Sloth isn't out of it by any means at +3. Unfortunately Day doesn't look to have his game today.

A lot of guys going to be playing 54 holes this weekend because of the delays. Leaders figure to fall back over par given how brutally difficult this course is. So it should at least be a wide open tournament unless someone posts a crazy good round this afternoon.

Boring course to watch imo. Every hole looks the same - long, narrow, trouble left and right, sloped, tiered green. It wouldn't be on my bucket list to play, that's for sure. Sure, I'd shoot 120, but it just looks so dreary! Golf distilled down to very difficult accuracy, shot after shot.

Sounds like the USGA's dream Open course

And yet it consistently ranks in the top 10 courses in America. But it is a pure golf course in that it does reward hitting fairways and greens and punishes missing them, and you need to be able to putt consistently well. It's not a scenic course obviously, it's probably just beautifully carved out using the land. Dustin Johnson hitting 25 greens in a row is ridiculous, but he'll probably regret not doing more with it.

McIlroy is having a great second round right now. He might get himself into a great position going into the final two rounds. I would love to see Bubba vs DeChambeau in the final grouping on Sunday fighting for the championship. I think that would be a fascinating match to watch.

Senator Clay Davis
06-18-2016, 10:27 AM
McIlroy totally blew a shot at breaking the record and maybe even going for a 59 after that three putt on 17 after he drove the green. Then misses several more good birdie looks and caps it off with a 4 putt from 9 feet. Now fighting to make the cut again.

I do like seeing the pro tracer more often, but virtually every shot?

Kinda funny given that CBS probably only shows pro tracer at Augusta a half dozen times or so the entire tournament.

When youre leading the us open and your pursuers are Dustin, Sergio, and Lee that a guaranteed win.

Seems like all that rain really messed up with the USGAs plans and we never really saw the insanely fast and firm conditions they hyped up. They were predicting a +5 winner sort of thing.

Unless Lowry implodes he's got this. As Girly says..the guys chasing him won't run him down.

Senator Clay Davis
06-19-2016, 11:22 AM
It's still playing pretty tough out there even with Lowry's great score. Only 6 guys under par and 2 more at even so the course is tricky, but not brutal because it isn't fast enough out there. That Lowry has been even or better all three rounds is impressive, if he does it again today it'll be a pretty amazing performance to win.

I still think that any of the guys in the top 6 can win this (but hopefully not Garcia.) It will be a fun back nine to watch. I think DJ will crumble.

There is a possible penalty stroke coming to DJ. Sounds like the decision won't be made until the end of the round.

Hey, Joe Buck ask the official the question when he's still there! "do the chasers know?"

Hey, Joe Buck ask the official the question when he's still there! "do the chasers know?"

everybody on the course has been notified.

Is there another instance in pro sports where during the course of the game, the rules members came out and said "we will decide to rule on a possible violition in todays game AFTER the game is over and one that could affect how everybody approaches the rest of todays game"?

Its absurd.

they should just give him the penalty cause they're going to give him a penalty. What defense could he have?

This will be an unreal controversy if Johnson loses by 1. The Pga championship situation with the grounding of the club was mostly understandable, but this is a little silly

one of these days the players will boycott the US Open. They are powerful enough and are sick and tired of the USGA making the courses unfair and impossible and something like this might put them over the edge.

It's like the USGA is trying to make the US Open into Fox News calibre programming.

1. Too many idiots trying to yell and get on TV after tee shots.

2. Does the fact Lowry called him self for a penalty yesterday influence the usga here? It shouldnt, but becomes a huge story if Lowry were to lose by one.
3. To me, if the player says they did not then the presumption should be on the usga to prove that the player did cause it to move. Here the presumption seems to be on the player

Fox is just milking the situation with DJ to add drama. I don't think you can justify giving him a once stroke penalty there

06-19-2016, 05:23 PM
It's absurd that in a game that routinely involves players to be allowed to pick up and then subsequently place their own balls (after marking), that THIS might end up being a penalty. His club was in the air, behind the ball, while the ball rolled backwards TOWARDS the club and away from the hole.

Stupid stupid stupid.

they had the rules official on the set and he pretty much told the panel they were going to assess a penalty....it has nothing to do with FOX.

USGA a joke yet again, i know some people like watching the pros struggle but when they hit a good shot and it rolls 30 yards down a hill, thats clown golf and the penalty situation is worse. The USGA strikes me as an organization that needs to control everything. good to see DJ win

Great day of watching golf. I was thoroughly entertained. Loved how the course played too. I like seeing all the different types of shots you don't normally see and having only a few guys under par. Guess I'm in the minority. Go DJ.
