Hi all,

Does anyone remember some of the Shoppers Drug Mart Calgary Flames calendars back in the 90's? They used to be handed out for free back in the day and had plenty of cool photos of the roster, information and recipes from the Flames wives/girlfriends. It was a fairly high quality production for a free product that was distributed in the Calgary area and maybe southern Alberta.

Call me an old soul but I love some of the stuff that I was able to get and collect as a young Flames fan. I remember every year going weekly to Shoppers in Braeside in September eagerly awaiting my new calendar for the upcoming season. These days with things online and a lot of the memorabilia being expensive for a young fan, I really came to cherish the little things.

If anyone on this forum has any of these kicking around, would you be able to post some pics for nostalgia purposes ?? I have a few but god only knows where they are hidden.

Thanks

My cat chewed it up a little bit so I had to do a bit of patch work.

Hmm I probably have about 10 or so years of these things but they are up in storage at my parents place.

The ones I have are a traditional calendar vs. the poster style that is shown up above.

I certainly recall waiting with excitement every year for the calendars to show up too. Lots of stops at the local shoppers asking yet again "are the calendars in yet?"

I tried looking a bit for mine but couldn't find it.

I was able to find a program from 1994 for the Calgary Rad'z Roller hockey team. Got some autographs too! Lol.

Looking at this program you realize just how much times have changed. There's a section where you fill out a form and mail it in to purchase "Official Roller Hockey International" merchandise. $20 USD for a t-shirt 21 years ago!

I forgot that The Great One's brother, Glen Gretzky was our President and GM.

Some other minor tidbits. Midnapore Mall in south Calgary was only open till 7 pm M-F and closed Sundays. Wow have times changed!

If anyone cares to show me how to post a picture on this forum, will gladly post a few pictures if anyone is interested??

I've got calendars from 1985/86 all the way to 2000. I can post photos of the covers unless there is a specific year that you are after.

McDonald's made some really nice calendars starting in 2005 but stopped a few years back. They were also "official" Flames ones so much better than the generic ones they sold in stores.

Sure, it's not 1985 today. But who knows what tomorrow might bring?

I have a bunch of those in my box of Flames artifacts. When I moved away for school in the '90s I gave my mom specific instructions to grab me one as soon as they were out and mail it cross-country.
