Kristen Odland @KristenOdlandCH
Hartley also said G Jon Gillies is out with a concussion.

Randy Sportak @SUNRandySportak
#Flames G Jon Gillies not practising. Being treated under concussion protocol after the hit he took in game versus the Dinos.

That really sucks. Hopefully he will be ready for the start of the Stockton season.

Is this a precautionary measure or does he have a full blown concussion?

Crappy news. Gillies wasn't going to make the big club, but I wanted to see how he looked against NHLers.

It sounds like they suspect he has a concussion.

Scott Cruickshank @CruickshankCH
#Flames prospect G Jon Gillies sidelined with a suspected concussion. He was conked Wednesday against the Dinos. And G Jonas Hiller is sick.

This is why you don't bother playing scrubs like the U of C Dinos.

Well crap

It didn't even look like a bad hit. Just a run of the mill collision, nothing particularly noteworthy. Must have caught him just right unfortunately.

With Hiller already sick too, could have got some good looks in camp. Hopefully he can recover quickly.

Sucks. Goalie helmets are pretty much just designed to deflect pucks and I'm surprised these injuries don't come up more often. If the nhl wants to look at goalie gear I would start at what some of those guys are wearing upstairs. I've heard stories of some goalies making their padding thinner to get closer to the cage.

Ugh...awful news for Gillies. I didn't expect him to necessary steal a job in camp, but it would have been nice to see how he fared against the pros.

How long does the protocol last again? 1-2 weeks of no activity?

1 week symptom free I believe

Hope he is okay. Could have a serious ripple effect on how the goaltending situation is dealt with after camp. They may have to risk sending Ortio through waivers to start the season in Stockton. Which I think is a terrible risk to take. He's young enough for a team to make a claim IMO.

The old self quote. Unless it's been changed, the 2011 protocol explicitly states there's no minimum time for return to play. The only stipulation is symptom free at rest and exertion

The Flames should be terminating the agreement the have with the UofC for a couple years. That will let the University know that #### like that will not be tolerated. Running a goaltender is complete bull#### and is nothing more than some scrub trying to make a name for himself or find his 15 minutes.

Hopefully just a minor one.

Overreaction much? He didn't run the goalie, it was a normal hockey play. Sometimes these things happen

Pretty sure it was Bruce accidentally kneeing his own goalie in the head trying to take his guy out.

Thanks. Didn't see the play so assumed it was the usual garbage that takes place in these mindless exhibition games. Hope Gillies is okay.

This never would have happened if you had a Gazdic type there warning the other team that there is a price to pay. :bag:

This never would've happened if the Flames youngstars played the Dinos in a game of Badminton

The Dinos and the CIS as a whole is hardly a league of scrubs. Many of these guys have learned systems in the CHL, and are actually quite talented. The structure of CIS hockey is quite impressive, and IMO the talent is quite good.

Sorry, but if you didn't see the game why would you jump in with such a bold conclusion?

@SUNGilbertson: #Flames G Jon Gillies just stepped on ice at Saddledome. Positive sign as he recovers from suspected concussion.
