This is hilarious the Oilers are given identical odds as the Flames to win the cup and to win the Western Conference this year.

For people that don't understand how the numbers work, if you see it says Chicago +650 to win the Stanley Cup that means if you bet $100, you will win $650.

I can't wait for them to fail again this year.

Not minding the value for SJ in the West

Winning the western conference means getting to the cup finals or most points?

Homerism aside, the Flames actually have decent value.

Might throw 100 down

The Flames have fantastic value considering how many teams actually stand a chance. The odds say Calgary has less than a 1 in 30 chance when the fact is it's more like 1 in 10 considering the only real challenges will be Tampa, Anaheim, St. Louis, Anaheim and Chicago.

Every other team I'd put even or worse than Calgary, maybe Pittsburgh and LA but still our odds are much better than presented here. We have one of the most stacked defense cores and our top 3 forward lines will rival most with the exception of 3 or 4 teams.

Avs seem quite out of place as well, I think they're better than a lot of the teams ahead of them there.

Oiler fans have more disposable income than I thought. They are drinking the Kool aid something fierce.

Those are good odds for the Flames. Risk $200 ($100 for each) and you could take home $4,900.

How bad are the Leafs going to be this year? Usually, they get a bit of a boost on odds like this just because they're the Leafs and their fans have blind faith despite all evidence to the contrary. Everyone in Ontario must be still distracted by the Jays.

Tempting to bet
$100 - CHI
$100 - TB
$100 - ANA
$100 - LA
$100 - NYR
$50 - PIT
$50 - CGY

Good chance you make a small amount
CHI
PIT

Most likely you almost double your money
TB
ANA
LA
NYR

Long shot you make 5.5x your money
CGY

Just guessing 10-20% chance you lose all $600?

Have a feeling the Ducks get over the hump. Dallas Stars have value to win the West. Don't see any Canadian teams contending deep in the playoffs other than Montreal but they won't win.

Agree re: Stars, disagree re Habs. They are pretty bad. They rode Price's god-like performance last season to even make the playoffs. I'm expecting a bubble team with a first round bounce if they even make it this year because I doubt that even Price can duplicate that performance.

The Flames and the Jets are the best Canadian teams right now, IMO, and also have the best trajectories over the next 3-5 years. Sens are always a bit of a wild card though.

Is there any place to look at the past pre-season cup odds? You could have probably made a small fortune betting on LA the year they won their first cup

How do you make a small fortune?

Start with a large fortune and bet on sports :)

A friend of mine put $1000 on the Kings in August and got $18,000 when they won. He's a Redwings fan who won't bet on his own team. He even bought tickets and flew out for game 6 so he could be there with us when they won(and he won). He's got a picture of his receipt framed with his ticket to the game.

Dallas and Winnipeg provide really good value IMO. Dallas moreso, but if Winnipeg finds a goalie their odds would skyrocket

For people that like risky but high return bets, Buffalo @ +10.000 and Colorado @ +6.600 are cool bets.

Buffalo has Eichel, Kane, and ROR as additions with a horrible defense, while Colorado is coming off an unexpected down year and make some good tweaks to their roster. They at least have a goaltender capable of making a Stanley Cup run should they get in.

I put 200 down on calgary and will probably do another little bit before the season starts. I really do think they have the best defence in the leauge.

If they had gio and hamilton amd frolik and bouma against the ducks...the series goes 7. And with the regression chicago has taken...

On sports interaction oilers are like 50:1 and flames are 19:1. Not sure what bodog is doing.

Site I'm on the Flames are 23-1, Oilers 51-1.

That puts the Oilers at 24th and the Flames at 14th, which seems about right.

There is money to be made betting on hockey if you have a decent unbiased understanding of the game and how each side plays.

Hockey lines are the least solid lines set by Vegas, the turnover on it is not even close to the others (NFL, NBA, MLB) which is how smart guys can make a living.

I do this sort of thing for a living and can easily point out the flaws in the markets prices, as most can and have here with this one. The Oilers have no business being at that price.
