Remains to be seen but I think a blind monkey would have done a better job with our 3 picks we gave up.

Mine:

#15 - Brock Boeser (RW)
#45 - Oliver Kylington (D) (still can't believe we actually got him at #60)
#52 - Vince Dunn (D)

#15 Kyle Connor
#45 Either Jakub Forsbacka Karlsson or Daniel Sprong, probably JFK
#52 Rasmus Andersson
#53 Oliver Kylington
#76 Erik Foley
#83 Nicolas Roy or Michael Spacek

If the deal for Hamilton wasn't there, I probably would have traded the pics away for Reinhart, I'm sure they're about the same level of player.

But if we kept the pics, I think Svechnikov, JFK and Anderson. It's hard to say though as some of these guys wouldn't have been available but I also love that we got Buzz at 60 and would have taken him sooner.

It shouldn't be needed. I was making fun of the no good oilers.

15 - Mathew Barzal
45 - Rasmus Andersson
52 - Oliver Kylington

... I really liked our actual 2nd round picks.

What I find more interesting is the players the Bruins took with 13-14-15
Zboril, DeBrusk, Senyshyn.
The last 2 were projected 2nd rounders by most.
If they had drafted Zboril, Conner and Barzal I think most observers would have rated it as great haul by the Bruins, and the criticism of the Hamilton trade wouldn't be so intense (even though only 1 of those picks was from the trade, I think the perception of the deal would have changed if they had 3 highly touted prospects)

I'm not going to pretend I know anything about most of the players who went in round two, but with that 15th pick I would have liked Barzal or Connor.

That's the thing.

Based on everything they have said about sticking to their lists, and comments made about where they would have been willing to pick the players they drafted, there is reason to believe that, if they weren't able to acquire Hamilton, the picks probably look like this:

15: ?? (Barzal?)
45: Andersson
52: Kylington
53: ???
(2 3rd round picks)

When you look at who we drafted, vs who we would have drafted anyway, you could argue that the actual cost to the Flames of acquiring Hamilton was:

15th + 53rd + two 3rds

Let me put it this way...

I have no idea how good the 15th pick would have been. Trading the 1st and using the second rounders to have a player several years down the development path and minimizes risk in terms of whether he will pan out is amazing. If at 15th, the BPA is Dougie Hamilton, you take Dougie freaking Hamilton which is essentially what Treliving did.

I have no idea about the second rounders, I guess I would have targeted the same players?

Insane haul for us this draft.

15th would have been Barzal or Connor?

a Dougie Hamilton is a Dougie Hamilton, but the mystery 15th overall pick can be anything, it can even be a Dougie Hamilton!

If all the picks were made that way:

15. Barzal or Svechnikov
45. Kylington
52: Andersson
53: JFK

I have to admit that after the Hamilton deal went down I totally abandoned tuning in to the draft.

"Welp, we have no more picks and I dont want to see a bunch of dudes slobbering all over some kid who goes first overall."

Granted, apparently I missed a golden Katz video.

The draft was and always will be fun to watch for the most part. Sure, the Flames didn't have a first but there were still a few deals that happened and lots of talk about potential deals, needs and predictions. Plus, actually hockey is done by then and it's something hockey related so that in itself is worth watching.

i was actually stunned that Barzal and Connor we both available...

and as other mentioned, i actually like the picks of Anderson and Kylington as they both seem like good players and it also addresses some organizational needs...

I'd have picked Barzal though if we didn't move the picks, keeping the other two...

Sprong would have been an risky pick too, but i'd take Kylington and stick with Anderson, as you don't want to roll the dice too often with the first couple of rounds.

In an alternate universe where we still have our picks from Dougie trade:

#15 - Matthew Barzal (C/RW) (NYI took him at 16)
#45 - Jeremy Bracco (RW) (Toronto took him at 61)
#52 - Rasmus Andersson (RD) (lol, guy we got at 53)
#53 - Oliver Kylington (lol, guy we got at 60)
#76 - Denis Malgin
#83 - Thomas Schemitsch

#52 - Rasmus Andersson
#53 - Vince Dunn
#60 - Oliver Kylington

Swing for the fences!
All these players have potential top line/pairing talent.

Since we're talking what if scenarios.. would have traded up to #5 for Noah Hanifin.

I would have taken Debrusk knowing that it would enrage the Oilers nd their culture of nepotism and make them trade their next two picks for Griffen Reinhart.
