Toronto Blue Jays (71-56, conquering Kings of the universe) vs. Detroit Tigers (60-67, thanks for David Price)

Probable Starters:

Friday @5:00 Mountain Time: TOR: R.A. Dickey, 8-10, 4.26 ERA; DET: Matt Boyd, 1-4, 7.04 ERA
Saturday @11:00 Mountain Time: TOR: Drew Hutchison, 12-2, 5.06 ERA; DET: Buck Farmer, 0-2, 7.80 ERA
Sunday @11:00 Mountain Time: TOR: Mark Buehrle, 13-6, 3.60 ERA; DET: Alfredo Simon, 11-8, 4.89 ERA

Great road trip for the Jays! It's tough to not think that they will just win every single game the rest of the way, especially after how they destroyed the Angels and how well the first two games of this series went, but the fact remains: there is no way for the Jays to fall out of first place in the AL East when games end today. That's a cushion! It's not much of a cushion, but it's still a cushion. They are 21-5 in their last 26 games.

The Tigers and Jays couldn't really be moving in more opposite directions. At the time of the Price trade, if memory serves, the Tigers were either 0.5 GB or 1.0 GB the Jays. The Tigers are now 60-67, putting them a solid 11 GB the Blue Jays by my math. Dan Norris has been put on the 15-day DL, so a team that has been playing with Matt Boyd in their rotation has been forced to go deeper into the well.

Stats Time!

Over his career, current Tigers hitters have the following stats vs. R.A. Dickey: 104 AB, 36 H, 5 HR, 13 K, 0.346 AVG, 0.424 OBP, 0.587, 1.010 SLG, OPS
Over his career, current Tigers hitters have the following stats vs. Drew Hutchison: 38 AB, 12 H, 0 HR, 10 K, 0.316 AVG, 0.341 OBP, 0.395 SLG, 0.736 OPS
Over his career, current Tigers hitters have the following stats vs. Mark Buehrle : 180 AB, 61 H, 5 HR, 22 K, 0.339 AVG, 0.360 OBP, 0.494 SLG, 0.854 OPS

Over their careers, current Blue Jays hitters have the following stats vs. Matt Boyd: NO STATISTICS AVAILABLE
Over their careers, current Blue Jays hitters have the following stats vs. Buck Farmer : 3 AB, 1 H, 0 HR, 0 K, 0.333 AVG, 0.333 OBP, 0.667 SLG, 1.000 OPS
Over their careers, current Blue Jays hitters have the following stats vs. Alfredo Simon: 58 AB, 11 H, 1 HR, 12 K, 0.190 AVG, 0.266 OBP, 0.328 SLG, 0.593 OPS

OK!

BLUE JAYS!

LETS!

That Tigers rotation in addition to that Rogers Center hitting could mean a long, long series for the Tigers bullpen.

This is going to get ugly.

I'd really like to see Revere somewhere else in the lineup, personally. Am I wrong in thinking that?

To me it would be deadly to have him in the 5th spot. He seems a little out in no man's land where he is now, just getting on base and then jogging in after the 3rd out. At least in the 9th spot he could usually be the start of the damage for the top of the order.

So after the game Josh Thole was optioned to the minors to make room for Hutch to return to 25 man roster. And when I say the minors, I mean Rookie-class minor league. Below single A.

This way he can be recalled in time for Dickeys next start on Sept 2.

can you explain? If he went to buffalo why couldn't they recall him?

KelVarnsen

Players have to wait 10 days before be called back up unless a season ends, then they can return. He wouldn't be able to catch Dickey on the 2nd if he was sent to Buffalo.

1) Donaldson
6) Bautista
9) Encarnacion

The top 3 batters in the majors, that aren't Blue Jays, have 280.

And I honestly thought that Dioner was a HUGE upgrade from years of seeing J.P Arencibia behind the plate last season. Seeing Martin day after day this season just makes me appreciate more how far this ballclub has upgraded that position.

Nice! I admittedly didn't think much of the Revere acquisition (mostly because I was going by the reaction here haha), but he is on absolute fire!

I would love to have him in that lead off position, imagine how often we'd have at least one guy on base for Donaldson, Bautista and EE?

I heard the Jays crew discussing that and saying it wouldn't be fair to Tulo and that you have to go with your stars in certain positions. But the idea of

Revere
Donaldson
Bautista
EE
Tulo

is boner inducing.

Yeah, Gose had talent, but he's exactly the kind of player the Jays had lots of. Talented guy who just didn't seem to give a fata. That's where guys like Donaldson, Martin, and now Tulowitzky and Price are changing that culture.

Has any team in the majors ever finished with three hitters that all have 30 or more HR and 100 or more RBIs?

I think the Jays had a lineup like that in 00 or so. Back in the days of steroids...those were like a guy hitting 20 and 80 today.

Delgado, Brad Fullmer, and Tony Batista all were 30-100 guys.

Finger Cookin
08-29-2015, 01:09 PM
Just checking the MLB records. I decided to go for 30 HR and 120 RBI for now, just to see what I find. So far I've found two teams with 3 players with 30 or more HR and 120 or more RBI.

1956 - Brooklyn Dodgers
1996 - Colorado Rockies (should have know a Rockies team would be on the list).

I'll edit this to add more teams as I find them.

EDIT

1996 - Seattle Mariners

MLB.com shows the top 1000 all-time hitters in a given category, and that cuts off RBI at 109. So here's teams that have had 3 players with 30 or more HR and 110 or more RBI.

1996 - Cleveland Indians
1996 - Colorado Rockies (4 players!)
1997 - Colorado Rockies
1999 - Colorado Rockies
2000 - Houston Astros
2001 - Oakland A's
1929 - Philadelphia Phillies
2004 - St. Louis Cardinals

The Jays have never had a team with 3 hitters with 30 or more HR and 110 or more RBI. The closest:

1999 - Carlos Delgado (44 HR 134 RBI), Shawn Green (42 HR 123 RBI). 3rd place that season was Tony Batista (26 HR 79 RBI, but in only 98 games)
2000 - Carlos Delgado (41 HR 137 RBI), Tony Batsista (41 HR 114 RBI). 3rd place that season was Brad Fullmer (32 HR 104 RBI -- good memory, Sylvanfan!)
2003 - Carlos Delgado (42 HR 145 RBI), Vernon Wells (33 HR 117 RBI). 3rd place that season was Josh Phelps (20 HR 66 RBI)

My favorite thing today was looking at Blue Jays tickets on ticketmaster. I was quite disappointed with the numbers yesterday for the Indians series. There looked to be 20-25k available tickets per night.

I figured after these two games there'd be a surge of ticket buying, so I went to check the Indians series just now and got this message.

Attention!

LOTS of fans are trying to buy tickets right now – you have a much better shot if we search the best available seats for you.
We’re turning off the Interactive Seat Map and removing any seats you’ve selected. Click OK to search best available and we’ll help you find seats faster than humanly possible!

Awesome! Hopefully the fans push it up to 35-40k per night.

Yep, as predicted fans bought the **** out of tickets during and after today's game. The excitement level is crazy. They had about 25k tickets sold yesterday for Monday's game (which is a pretty low crowd now a days).

After the server crashing rush this afternoon it looks like about 35-37k are gone, and I wouldn't be surprised if another 3-4k are sold tomorrow and Monday afternoon, plus whatever walk-up they get.

Could be looking at sellout or close to it for a Monday night game against a non-draw, mediocre opponent. That'd be impressive.

This should answer some of your questions.

The Toronto Blue Jays are tearing it up on the TV ratings scene -- again. Ever since the team made a few big deals back in late July, it has pretty much blown away all competition for the eyeballs of those who love sports.

They were at it again on the weekend, breaking the 2-million mark on Friday night and topping the million threshold on Saturday and Sunday. The latter two, by the way, are usually considered precious time slots for Canadians and are usually spent at cottages and beaches -- not in front of a television set.

But, it appears, nobody can tear their eyes away from the Jays these days.

It was the most-watched series in Sportsnet's history, erasing the long-standing record set the week before when the same two teams met. You can bet that Sportsnet's ad sales staff has already circled the next Yankees-Jays series on its day-timers (see "record" reference for those who don't know what a day-timer is.)

Thanks to all this Jays madness, Sportsnet's broadcasts are now averaging 727,000 a game, up 24 per cent over last year.

Tulowitzki's standard strikeout is better situated at 5th after JD, JB, EE have had a chance to bat.

With the way Revere is swinging the bat, Tulo was actually harming the Jays for driving in even more runs by always getting out or grounding out into double plays. He's been an incredible buzz kill offensively.

Defensively, Tulo's been awesome. Hopefully, he finds his bat.

Lol. Zaun just called Gose a lollygagger. God I love that reference.

Fly ball to centre. Pillar was on first and they run a hit and run. Pillar makes a mistake and runs too far - well past the SS.

Gose just has to throw to first and they double play Pillar by 50 ft.

But Gose casually tosses the ball in towards 2nd, missing the cutoff guy, and Pillar gets back safely.

I was doing an errand and I missed it - What did Gose do today that was a head scratcher?

Pop out to centre field, Pillar forgot how many outs there were, so he ran from first almost all the way to third, then had to turn around go back to first.

It was basically a guaranteed double up at first, but Gose just casually threw it to the infield and hopped it before the 2nd baseman, allowing Pillar to easily get back to first.

So I just looked for fun and the only games left this season that even have a chance of not being sold out are the three against Cleveland coming up, the first game against Baltimore this Friday and the First game of the Rays series (last series of the season).

The first Indians game, and the Orioles and Rays games look like they have 5-6k left now and will all likely sell out. However it looks like the Tuesday and Wednesday Indians games will have fairly week crowds with 15-20k seats still available each night, but those will be our last two non-sellouts of the season.

What an impressive turnaround, that was more than I even imagined. When the trades and hype first started I was thinking strong weekday crowds of 30k, strong weekend crowds of 35-40k and then some sellouts sprinkled in for the Yankees and Price weekend starts.

This is just incredible.
