Toronto Blue Jays (69-55, conquering Kings of the universe) vs. Texas Rangers Lamers (64-59, uh ... I can't think of anything)

Probable Starters:

Tuesday @6:00 Mountain Time: TOR: Mark Buehrle, 13-6, 3.45 ERA; TEX: Derek Holland, 1-1, 3.68 ERA
Wednesday @6:00 Mountain Time: TOR: David Price, 12-4, 2.40 ERA; TEX: Colby Lewis, 14-5, 4.29 ERA
Thursday @Noon Mountain Time: TOR: Marco Estrada, 11-7, 3.27 ERA; TEX: Yovani Gallardo, 10-9, 3.25 ERA

Feels pretty good to be a Jays fan after a complete dismantling of the Angels over the weekend. They are 6 games clear of their closest competition for a playoff spot and are tied with the Yankees for the AL East. Importantly, they are tied in the loss column which wasn't the case the last time they were in this position.

I'm sure you know that the Jays' offensive performance was record-setting for a 3 game series, as they scored 36 runs over the series, topping the previous record of 34. The series where the Jays recorded the most runs is actually the 1993 World Series.

Saw a cool stat the other day that stated the Jays' run differential since The Trades is would actually be 4th in the AL if you allowed all of the other teams to use their run differential for the whole season.

The Rangers have been a really hot team of late, but the Jays are going to enjoy playing in a real hitter-friendly ballpark over the next couple of days. Hopefully they can take advantage!

Stats Time!

Over his career, current Rangers hitters have the following stats vs. Mark Buehrle: 199 AB, 61 H, 6 HR, 35 K, 0.307 AVG, 0.350 OBP, 0.462 SLG, 0.813 OPS
Over his career, current Rangers hitters have the following stats vs. David Price: 148 AB, 41 H, 2 HR, 45 K, 0.277 AVG, 0.321 OBP, 0.365 SLG, 0.686 OPS
Over his career, current Rangers hitters have the following stats vs. Marco Estrada : 26 AB, 7 H, 1 HR, 4 K, 0.269 AVG, 0.367 OBP, 0.385 SLG, 0.751 OPS

Over his career, current Blue Jays hitters have the following stats vs. Derek Holland: 145 AB, 30 H, 4 HR, 26 K, 0.207 AVG, 0.256 OBP, 0.338 SLG, 0.594 OPS
Over his career, current Blue Jays hitters have the following stats vs. Colby Lewis : 114 AB, 30 H, 6 HR, 29 K, 0.263 AVG, 0.351 OBP, 0.482 SLG, 0.834 OPS
Over his career, current Blue Jays hitters have the following stats vs. Yovani Gallardo: 117 AB, 32 H, 4 HR, 21 K, 0.274 AVG, 0.353 OBP, 0.436 SLG, 0.789 OPS

Its like Rogers was being run by Bill Wirtz until the end of July and as soon as they got off their wallet the team took off. Encarnacion has really been raking lately too. The Jays have a very good shot at having 3 hitters with 30 homers and 100 runs driven in. As much as RBI can be an over rated stat, I think nocking in 100 runs when the two guys in front of you cleared the bases 70+ times and combine to drive in 200+ runs would mean something.

habernac
08-26-2015, 07:21 AM

It's not very often that you see a gold glover give up the game winning run on an error.......

Crazy run this team is on. Everything is going their way - they win even when they don't have their best stuff.

SuperMatt18
08-26-2015, 08:18 AM
That hustle from Donaldson is a big reason for that play.

Put pressure on Beltre to have to make a quick play on an awkward hopper and it led to him not have a great grip on the ball when he threw it.

The winning attitude is growing and spreading through this team.

Bullpen stats since the ASG in the AL:
#2 Blue Jays ERA 2.81 .227AVG (lowest in the AL) WHIP 1.03 (lowest in the AL)
#11 Rangers ERA 4.75 .273AVG WHIP 1.42

If it's going to be battle of the bullpens, I'd rather take my chances with that Texas bullpen.

I still honestly think that Edwin is just starting to get into his annual beast mode. Remember May of last year? I think September Edwin is going to be off the charts! Wow, bases loaded with Bautista and EE up, what a way to come into the game as a pitcher. That must be completely mentally defeating before you even throw a pitch.

At this point you may as well intentionally walk them both and just take the 2 runs, haha........except then our bottom will likely light you up just as bad.

At the risk of repeating what's already been said, this line-up is seriously off the charts, and it looks like they're really starting to beast mode as we head into September.

If things keep going this way I wouldn't be surprised if we're unanimous world series favorites by the end of the regular season.

I'd be happy to just see them in the Fall Classic after 21 years of waiting. :) Whatever happens after that is just gravy.

But then again, no doubt that the electric atmosphere at the Rogers Centre is certain to give the boys a huge boost come October. Remember when this city had that 7 year long Stanley Cup playoffs drought that ended in 2004? Toronto is going to be raucuos in October after a 21 year long wait! It's too bad he's not a very good left handed hitter. He's a far better right handed hitter but is losing those at bats to Collabello who has been a productive hitter. Smoak is actually a 1.146 OPS batting right handed with 4 homers in 26 plate appearances hitting right handed. The glove is good, but that would be one area where the tem could use an upgrade is a regular left handed hitting first baseman.

Texas likely is on the road somewhere tomorrow. So home teams will usually start the last game of a home stand in the afternoon so that they can get out of town earlier and to their next destination. That's why there can be a lot of Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday afternoon games. As they call them get away days.

Traditionally Baseball is a game that was played during the day.

For example the Cubs didn't play a night game until 1988.

With travel between series it helps with travel as well, but really they mix up day and night games as it is part of the baseball pasttime.
