Who will backup Fernandez?

I remember Alex Gonzalez fondly, mostly due to his glove.
In 8 seasons with the Jays in some lean years after the World Series wins, he had a defensive runs saved of +21 and a War of 9.6. He was always decent with the bat too. Never a great average, but hit enough for a defensive shortstop, and had some good power for the position too. Had 17 homers and 76 RBI in his last year with the Jays.

No love for Johnny Mac? I vote for him. Afterall this is *backup* that we're talking about correct?

Manny Lee play short?
Yup as the short-stop on the first world series team.
For the second one they re-acquired Tony Fernandez and he took over at short.
Lee was pretty smooth with the globe.

I suspect nearly all my votes will be for players from the world series teams and prior. So I need to throw a bone to Gonzalez here.
At the time, I did not care much for either Manny Lee or Alfredo. Seemed like they were always the weak links in the batting order. I didn't have much appreciation for defense.

At the time, shortstop was meant to be a defensive position rather than an offensive one.
I still went with Gonzalez though. Just to give that dark age some representation.
