For those of us with kids in minor hockey who have seen the Hockey Calgary news release that they are going to change the boundaries again this year, I thought it might be interesting to have a place to post all of the 'rumors' that are going around about which communities will be affected and how. The rumors may not end up being true, but it would be interesting to hear what everyone else is hearing.

For example, I have heard:
-Kincora and Hidden Valley will move to McKnight
-Springbank and Bow River will be combined to form 3 new associations
-Sherwood, Nolan Hill and Sage Hill will move to Crowfoot
-Royal Oak and or Rocky Ridge may move to Crowfoot

Are there really enough players to form 3 associations if Springbank and Bow River were merged especially if the last point were true?

Maybe not? I haven't heard the rumors all from the same source so it's not like all of them may happen. None of them may be true. But those are things floating around out there.

I think Springbank, Bow River and Simons Valley are some of the bigger associations in the NW. So I think it makes sense that they will lose some communities. Crowfoot and McKnight are two of the smaller associations. It makes sense that they would gain some communities.

I also heard that they are trying to get each association down to 650-750 kids. Some of the bigger associations have 900-1100 kids right now I think.

I don't know how many kids Springbank and Bow River have right now, but if they had 1000 each for a total of 2000 kids, dividing them into 3 associations would give 650-700 kids per association. So the numbers may make the rumor a possibility?

Crowfoot is already combined with Westwood to form the NW Warriors?

Springbank has a ton of kids playing - 12 or more peewee teams.

That's the former Crowchild that merged to form NW. We were in our first year their first year together.

But does Banks still get to play for the Hawks?

How would this all effect ice time. More kids, less ice at crap times?

I think associations with less kids now will have more kids next year and associations with more kids now would have less kids next year. I think the idea is for each association to have roughly the same number of kids and the same number of teams in each division. I think the point is more to balance the competitiveness between associations than improve ice times. The crap ice times would probably remain.
