Agreed! The fact that it is on a architectural products page screams a going cost of first born child.

European company + Euro exchange rate + shipping costs + Retail mark up = I'm guessing around $15-20 per square foot.

Cool products eh? I picked up a Bellroy Slim Sleeve Wallet last month and I've been thrilled with it. Takes some self control to stop hoarding receipts, but the wallet itself is one of those products that just feels good in your hand & it's pretty stylish to boot.

I'm always on the lookout for compact wallets. The site shows it can hold 15+ cards (???) - is that true? How many cards can it reasonably hold in just the tabbed pocket (and still close normally)?

I wish they allowed the one quick draw sleeve to flip up to reveal a money clip (instead of having to tuck bills into a pocket). That would be almost ideal for me.

This is one product I have been following for some time. They don't have Canadian support yet because we use chips but it is apparently coming soon:

I've got 7 in mine right now (including a thicker security card for work) and I could definitely fit some more in there, maybe not double though.

The real space saver is not having a layer of leather between each card. I keep two cards in the front pockets (debit & ID) and the remainder in the cards in the stacked sleeve. Honestly stack 15 cards together and you'll have a rough idea height/size of the wallet at the end of the day.

When it comes to the bills/money I make 80-90% of my purchases with debit anyways, so the rare time I carry cash it's not a problem to fold the bills for that pocket. Coins go into my pockets and into the change jar or my desk. The plus side is I've got loonies/toonies collecting my desk at work for snacks/lunch.

I'm not sure how hot the bulb gets yet, but the bulb itself is really cool, so I wouldn't want to have it obscured.

Thanks for the support Hulkrogan! For those asking the bulb in the Toma Lamp does get a bit warm but nothing too crazy. The idea is in the minimalism. No shade, just a cool looking Edison bulb. I have it set up so you can have two different light settings, not as bright, brighter and off.

I had a usb one way back in the day. IIRC it did. Basically the same idea that keeps the carafe warm so no reason they wouldn't. Assuming I'm thinking of the same thing you're talking about.

Pretty much. I was wondering if they got warm enough to accomplish the task. I usually get distracted by something at work, and my coffee gets cold before I finish drinking it.

Perhaps too late for Xmas now, but one of the best things I've bought over the last few years, that I use all the time, is a good flashlight. I think every guy should have a good flashlight.

There are a lot of quality brands out there, but I've found Fenix to be an excellent value for the high-quality that you get. There are lots of various sizes... I personally have a TK-15 and TK-22 and I always carry one in my photo bag, on trips, and have one for various uses around the house. These little things are small, but will make your old Maglites feel like a dinky candle. Amazing amount of light from such a tiny package.

http://images.knifecenter.com/thumb/1500x1500/knifecenter/fenix/images/FETK22U2BKn.jpg

I love these things so much I bought a couple of them as Xmas presents for family. They are not as cheap as lot of crappy flashlights you see at stores, but they are built to last. The sharp bezel is also not a bad sleeper self-defense tool.

That little LED on my cell phone is the best GD flashlight I've ever had. I always have it with me, it's bright enough for every application, and I don't have to carry around anything else. I've wondered if cell phone lights will put the small flashlight industry out of business. I doubt anybody under 30 would every buy one as they've grown up with a flashlight on their phone.

The problem with the cell phone flashlight is setting it up so that it aims at something you are looking at.

Mine sure as heck does. I got one in a Secret Santa here at work and it works almost too well. It's not a USB one, plugs into an outlet so it probably has way more jam.

Kept my coffee nice and hot till it got close to the bottom, then it gets insanely hot. Probably a firehazard too as I don't think it has an auto off feature. Kinda nervous to use it frequently tbh....I'd hate to be "that guy" that burnt down the office.

The little flashlight on my iPhone is a great feature, and I use it a ton. However, these Fenix lights are on a totally different planet when it comes to power and coverage. It's like comparing photos taken on a cell phone vs a professional SLR. It's a great tool.

I wish there were trailers that compact, functional and versatile available in North America. I wouldn't need one as capable off road but this is far more attractive than the tent trailers we have available.

05-22-2014, 10:12 AM
But seriously it's ridiculous how powerful those things are. What will it do that your bullet won't? This is like asking what it'll do that your handheld eggbeater won't... by way of example, there's a setting on there for "soup", which actually blends things at such a high velocity that it heats up. I.e., stick some carrots in there with whatever seasonings (there are recipes on the website), blend it, and it will pour out as steaming hot carrot soup.

That gives you an idea of the grade of machine we're talking about here. I don't own one but I've been considering it lately.

The issue for me is, if you're going for smoothies, the bullet blenders are more convenient from a cleaning perspective because they're single servings. Stick stuff in cup, blend, drink, stick cup in dishwasher. But that is literally all I use a bullet for.

Why can't North American companies make such cool trailers? I'd like to buy a trailer next year but all the options are so boring. The only trailer that I have found so far that is really interesting me is the Safari Condo R-series but they don't have any dealers out west.

Though it's not electric or piston-powered...or Japanese...like this friendly sex toy (http://www.dudeiwantthat.com/household/miscellaneous/japanese-electric-piston-masturbator-nsfw.asp), the LaunchPAD does employ advanced technology in a valiant effort to enhance Man's alone time. The makers of male masturbatory aid the Fleshlight have created and configured the LaunchPAD iPad case to work in tandem with the former so that men may seamlessly simulate sex both tactilely with a device capable of impersonating a vagina, and visually with one capable of streaming porn or interactive naked girls on Skype (e.g., girlfriends, good sports).
The LaunchPAD case is made of a sturdy but flexible material that protects and holds snugly inserted tablets, Fleshlights, and penises alike. It won't slide or shift during use and is designed to maintain the user's access to iPad touchscreens, volume, and power

No directed at you, because I know you're just buying one and didn't invent it, but that whole thing comes across as some pretty pretentious hipster bull####. Why wouldn't someone just input the calories of what they drink into their phone, since it appears they have to do it manually sometimes anyway, instead of also carrying around that mug?

Can you literally just place your phone on top of that mat and it will charge, or do you need to buy a special battery/case?

Also the terrible English in that write up makes me nervous that this is some Chinese POS that works for a few days then explodes by my head in the middle of the night.

I'll keep that in mind. I'm not in hurry to get any beams because I probably won't need them until January some time. Species isn't too important, character is more important.

I need a beam or two (depending on length) so that I can get 4 sections at 42 inches and one section at 60 inches. Probably around 6x6 or 8x8 or something.

I know the fingerprint readers made by Lenovo sense for capacitance in the finger meaning a dismembered finger would not work. Not sure if that's really necessary for a laptop but nonetheless cool.

The problem with the safe is that it would still be really easy to steal. Just pick up the whole safe and walk out with it. All it would prevent is kids getting their hands on guns (which should be unloaded in storage anyway, but that is a separate issue).

I can't say enough good things about the new ASUS VivoPC

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX51815

Bought one for a home theater PC and Steam streaming box combo and it's flawless for both. Pricing out the separate components you can't build a comparable system for less (when including the Windows 8 license), and the form factor is one of the smallest I've seen for a full desktop system (while still giving easy access to the hard drive and memory for upgrade purposes)

IMO there isn't a better bang for the buck right now in it's category

Driven by an obsession of how people record and recall memories, MCAD student Kirsten Camara designed the Analog Memory Desk, what could be the ultimate sketching surface. The desk has a built-in mechanism for scrolling 1,100 yards of butcher paper on rolls embedded in its legs, a sort of tablecloth of memory that records months or even years of random ideas, doodles, and coffee rings. The desk isn’t available for purchase, instead Camara released detailed blueprints through a Creative Commons license so you can build your own.

Reminds me of "roller boards" that we used for engineering drawings back before they were all computerized. Instead of butcher paper we'd have mylar on the rolls and we would tape the latest copies of all the drawings to it in order. Then just roll to the drawing you needed to make a change.

We bought them. They are okay when it's dark, they provide a good amount of light (enough to see where you're walking and you don't have to turn any lights on, but not enough to really wake you up if you go take a whiz in the middle of the night).

The only issue is they are low down on the wall, and they don't get enough direct light from the ceiling, so they are on all day long.

Based on this thread I bought a 10 pack of the things - I think they are awesome. We put black out blinds in our upstairs windows and they do their job... these lights down the hallway are perfect - provide just enough light to wander down the hall without crashing into anything but not enough to wake anyone up.

I understand the USB / combo outlets serve a niche market where a person can't access the electrical panel to turn off power to the outlet to safely install a new outlet, but they exist already in dozens of forms for people who can.

It reminds of the Kickstarter project for the butter knife with the little holes. Almost all butter knives with the slightly serrated edge do that already if you hold them at the slight angle to the butter.

Honestly, it doesn't look as safe as it should be, electrical connections should be secured.

And wiring a new plug takes all of 10 minutes, including getting out all the required tools, and putting them away after. And as above, they aren't hard to find.

Plus, those only have 1 amp charging.

I filled it out...but Im probably not your market audience. I use the shower to think and plan out my schedule, so they are usually endlessly long and scalding hot...and I like it that way! Conservation is down the list of priorities.

While I do use a lot of IOT devices, the nice thing about the shower is that it's a total escape from all the tech that surrounds me everywhere. However, two things that I wouldn't mind in the shower is a clock, and once in a while a radio so I can listen to the Fan960 in the morning.

SEOUL, May 19 (Yonhap) -- South Korean flat panel maker LG Display Co. showcased on Tuesday a detachable organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel that sticks to the wall, renewing its pledge to focus on the high-end display as a future growth engine.

The 55-inch wallpaper OLED panel, presented as one of the company's future displays at a media event, is only 0.97 mm thick, weighs 1.9 kg and can easily be stuck to a wall with a magnetic mat, or removed from it.

We've been toying with getting one of these for the new place.

There is way too many flaws in the system for it to be useful for more than a year. One very important one is that bees work from the outside in which means that there is no way to tell if the honey in the center of the comb is properly cured (in the video and the windows only show the ends not the centers) and uncured honey will actually ferment. To prevent this you would have to remove the comb to ensure that they are wax capped and shake the comb to remove the honey from those uncapped combs which will remove the fermented honey (or at least enough of it) then replace it and then move on the the "easy" extraction technique.
