You know how it goes.

How many kids come to your house? and in which area of the city?

What candies are you handing out?

What hot/cute costumes have you seen?

Who is the oldest kid you refused candy to?

etc....

Just got home and have had 15 kids already.

Giving out small chocolate bars, licorice, and mini chewy granola bars. Have a few premium halloween candy packs for the neighbour kids.

Lots of cute costumes, but nothing stands out yet, no parents dressed up either (boo!).

If I wouldn't have been away the few weeks before, I was going to buy this (http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/f22f/) to carry around while escorting my kid.

Lights are going out. If anyone knocks on my door now, they meet 'Trevor the Twelve Gauge'.

We've had more kids in 10 minutes than we did in 5 years TOTAL at the old house.

I may not have enough candy.

I'm handing out the Darwin chocolates.... aka everything with peanuts.

Ninja that rang the bell and hid around the corner. Popped out as I was closing the door. He had the full costume too - no jacket!

Dads: You might want to double check what your teenage daughter is wearing as a costume.

Teen Boys: You might want to stay home and give out candy to teenage girls rather than going out trick or treating. Unless you are escorting said girls.

Helping out my mom in Millrise, probably about 30 kids so far, which is up from recent years.

I live in a building in Chap, so I never get kids, so can't tell you bout that.

Got two boys in their teens, nearly as tall as I, who just stood at the door mute. I made them give me a hearty 'Trick or Treat' before I gave em candy.

Cranston. Only 20 kids so far but wasn't home till 6:15 so might have missed some.

Couple lame costumes, kid wearing a Crosby jersey and another kid in a snowsuit with his dad holding his transformer mask, lame. One kid was dressed as Napoleon Dynamite and even had the speaking pattern down haahaha awesome, gave him a handful of chocolate bars.

I'm in a condo in the NW and it's our second year here and so far no knocks at the door. I don't believe there is officially a policy for no trick or treating, guess there's no kids in the building. The candy I picked up just in case will have to be consumed by the wife and I now. Oh well. :hehehe:

45 customers here in Hillhurst as of 7:53. Full size candybars.

Not sure if I want to go into the 3rd box of 24's... doubt we'll get that many more. It'll be treat size bars that I don't like after that if it doesn't pick up.... (crispy crunch i'm looking at you)

7 tonight in our complex in Canyon Meadows, up by 1 from last year's total of 6. Probably doesn't help that 2-3 doors on either side of us are lights out.

90 in Discovery. Many parents dressed too. I dressed as an ugly old fat dude...took no time at all, some people just dont put in the effort.

Spent hours with my son making a sword, a shield and other "knight" stuff. Painted it all. Last minute he decided to be Captain America again. Oh well.

59 kids in Sundance - not bad but down a little from last year. I just shut it down for the night. We were handing out tootsie pops, rockets, mini chocoloate bars, and bagged candy. (swedish berries, sour peaches, etc) Got about half a bag left for the Flames game tomorrow night. :)

No real standout costumes this year, although one kid dressed as a Knight Templar actually had real chain mail - that was pretty impressive. No teenagers at all this year either; I think the oldest kids we got were probably 11 or 12.

we had just over 30 kids come by - the oldest was maybe grade 5

i don't 'get' my wife. earlier this week she was complaining that she thinks she's putting on a little weight and we need to eat healthier. ok - i'm fine with that. 2 days later she goes and buys 2 boxes of mini chocolate bars (so 300 total!). i asked her what planet she's on since we only ever get 30-40 kids. she then went a took out all the ones that she likes the best and left the rest for us to give out. when i reminded her about eating healthier she just sorta got quiet and didn't want to talk about it - ha!

all i know is the last pack of kids just loved me. i told them to hold up becuz we were shutting down for the night... i loaded them up with a crap load of candy! yee ha!

We didn't hand out this year but in years past, we've only had below 200 kids once, because of crappy weather. The house on the corner does this kick ass haunted house that the kids have to navigate to get up to their front door for candy and it's very popular. Because of that, we end up with tons and tons of kids on our street. I think our highest count in the last 7 years has been almost 300. It was packed out there tonight so I would imagine we'd have been looking at over 250 kids this year.

Both my 'kids' went to friends' places to help hand out candy, so it is very quiet here right now, which works out fine, since I have a stress induced headache, LOL.

MRCboicgy

73 in Douglasdale, which is a 10 year low for us. Took my daughter trick or treating with her friend in Auburn Bay, and was impressed by the number of kids and the great decorations on the houses. Some of the houses were running out after 250 kids. That community gets into the spirit. Also very impressed by the haunted house the RA put on in the community center.

- Martindale.
- 56 in total.
- Oldest was about 14.
- Didn't refuse any candy.
- Approximately 89% said "trick or treat." The other 11% just held a bag open and didn't say a thing. Those kids are little #######s and I surmise they have bad parents. ;)
- We handed out wagon wheels, baby ruths, kit kats, twixx, crunch bars and coffee crisp bars.
- FYI: We hand out the full size chocolate bars. Not the thumb sized BS.
- All kids were in really great costumes.

I had that too, got a leaflet in the mail box about it that I noticed on Monday. They were pretty excited when I handed over a few cans of beans and soup.

25 kids this year. I love to judge the people accross the street who have like 6 vehicles, run their deisel trucks for hours, keep all kinds of crap out on their front yard, also have a Porsche Cayenne and pretend to not be home for Halloween. I won't be scolding my kid for chucking eggs at their house 10 years from now, I'll be making sure we have at least 3 dozen past due ones in the fridge, and remind him that we really should be throwing those out tonight.

About 80 kids in Garrison Green. Just down to the scraps now. Which is good.

Everyone got a small bag of chips, a small chocolate bar, Maynard's gummies, rockets and a small tin of playdoH. Did up loot bags beforehand to make it easier.

Best part was taking my 2.5yr old out for his first time trick or treating. He had a blast all night and confirmed my awesome parenting by saying thank you to everyone without me asking.

Have you considered entering your car in a small town parade? They never have any rules about who or what can enter and it is acceptable to throw candy onto the street for the children to scavenge between floats.

None at our place since we're in a condo (though I do know that there are a handful of kids in our condo, including our daughter). Had just under 50 here in Glamorgan.

More than the past few years. Was handing out full-sized chocolate bars. Love seeing the excitement on kids faces when they realize it's a "big bar". Might try handing out cans of pop next year. Those were always a hit.

Rejected two 12 year old-ish girls with no costume on.

Left my pumpkins out on purpose to see if they would get smashed, but they made it through the night unscathed. Guess kids don't like terrorizing neighborhoods like we used to do... ;)

Kids started arriving at 5:30 and I was out of candy by 7. Looking outside, there were still kids out until 9-9:30. Same house last year had basically no one, this year, hundreds. Up in Taradale.

last year about 85 kids this year we ran out of candy at about 8:00 140 kids.
Halloween is a favorite for us, we like to dress up and scare the 10-14 year old kids.
Many of the older ones run away and don't even leave with candy. It's a good system lol.
Little kids we don't scare just hand out candy wave, pose for photos.

Again less than 20 for the 15th straight year.

half the kids looked old enough to be mowing/shoveling my place but you think I can find a teenager then, not a chance

Helping out my sister in Rainbow Falls Chestermere. Her haunted house, with full size chocolate bars had just under 200 kids. She thinks it was 198 but I ate a bar and didn't say anything, so 197 unless some other people dug in to her stash.

Was it the house on the corner of Westchester drive/blvd?

Best costume goes to my neighbor's kid's friend. He had an inflated Stay Puft costume. He tripped and fell a la that Raptor's inflatable mascot gif while running from my house to the neighbor's. My neighbor's kid then collapsed on the floor laughing. It was awesome.

Really quiet last night in our neighborhood in Burnaby. Wife and I took the kids around so we didn't hand out candy (supply our neighbor with extra) but there were not a lot of kids out. Some places said they didn't even see there first kid until after 7. I grew up in Marlborough and it always felt like there were 100's of kids out there.

We go to one house every year to see this one fellow dressed up as a gnome or troll like thing, a very good costume. He sits out front of his house completely motionless for 10, 20 minutes at a time waiting for someone to approach and ask if this thing is real or not. I've seen him scare the beejeesus out of people. Pretty sure a women he got this year pee'd herself. She literally punched her husband/boyfriend in the mouth because he was laughing so hard.

Later that night, the rock was back through the window with a note that said "Next time, tell me to my face".

What do you guys do with your Halloween candy? Do you let the kids gorge themselves stupid and get it overwith? We let him have a few pieces for desert after supper until it is gone or he loses interest.

A guy at work asks his kids Halloween night if they would prefer a new toy of their choosing in exchange for all of their candy. Then he shows up to work with the candy and gives it out to co-workers.

Can't say what I let my kids do as I don't have them, but we had rules on how much we could eat at a time when I was little. You get a little leeway Halloween night and maybe a night or two after, but back to the regular rules after that.

The thing was, if I remember, we never ate all of ours. There were years our bags lasted til the next year. We did lose interest. But a big part of it was our mom was pretty strict about junk food, and very encouraging towards eating healthy and trying different things. So we never even really had a palate for a lot of the rock candies or sugar candies. I mean, we loved our pop, and chocolate. Chips, cookies and ice cream. What kid doesn't? But those were controlled and used in moderation or for special occasions or as rewards. But we never really wanted to go to 7-11 and stock up on gummi worms, or suckers or anything like that. I mean we did try them, and we had them every once in a while, but it was like we couldn't eat them in large amounts, it turned our stomachs, the way it would a lot of adults now. After a while it wasn't about not being allowed to have them, but that we didn't really want them.

If you can get kids excited about healthy treats, they'll actually turn down the really nasty ones. A bowl of rasperries with fresh cream would get us more excited that a giant swirled lollipop. Course there is a level of work involved in all that. We had our own raspberry plants and strawberry plants. But now that I think of it, after we got to a certain age, we ended up picking them more than our mom. Just one of our responsibilities. Plus we got excited when they came into bloom. Fresh garden strawberries! Yum. Even our dog would gently pull raspberries of the low branches. Haha, what dog likes raspberries? She'd dig up carrots too, she loved those. If she got away from you (she wasn't supposed to be in the garden, obviously) you'd find her looking guilty as sin with a dirty muzzle and a carrot dangling from her mouth.

But yeah, there is work in getting your kids to make their own healthy decisions, and it starts with giving them a lot of healthy options, which do require a certain amount of work and thought. My mom made plum perogies for instance. Once you have that homemade treat all the candy in the world isn't going to be more attractive. It's not to say those were really healthy either. Definitely not a balanced meal, and no real vegetables or anything. Just that it's a way better treat alternative than a bag of sour candys, or even a bowl of ice cream.

I know I'm not telling you anything you don't know, and I'm definitely not trying to sound smart, as I said, I don't have kids, and don't have to deal with the challenges and day to day grind. Just relating my own experience, perhaps there'll be a tidbit that helps you. While I started responding to your post, I will admit, it's become more about me taking a nice trip down memory lane.

MMMmmm, plum perogies! Drool...
