Are there any distinguishing marks that would identify it as yours?

This is the time to give out the license plate. My office is across Blackfoot from Blackfoot Motosports so I see bikes go by constantly.

Just curious, are you sure it was stolen and not towed?

Brutal, that's a pretty rare bike so if someone spots one just call it in.

I have called all the impound lots and CPS doubled checked for me so yes i am sure it was stolen .... there is a small crack between the 2 lights on the front fender and some rub marks on the right fairing .... as far as i know its the only 2011 DaytonaSE 675 in Calgary with a solo seat

If its stolen its likely that the lic plate is going to be gone. How about a VIN number, in case someone posts it for sale its easy enough to check that?

It's a car enthusiast site, they found a stolen skyline a few years back driven by a guy with 3 fingers called the claw.

A Calgary based one at that. They've done the internet detective thing before successfully.

I think I saw your post on Kijiji. there were only a couple of bikes on sale but the ads had been up since the start of Sept. Might be wise to keep an eye on it.

Is it worth more to sell that bike as parts?

Oh man. That is one nice bike. I hope you get it back soon, really ####ty that this had to happen to you.

Be sure to check other cities/provinces' Kijiji's too just in case the thieves plan on taking it to BC/Sask to resell.

Best of luck dude. I wish I could be of more assistance.

Probably some saudi prince is ripping your bike around the palace grounds.

I would keep an eye on Kijiji and I wouldn't doubt that its in the backyard of some local pawn shop here in town as several of them will sell vehicles.

People usually don't steal things that stand out like your bike to use them personally.

I would recommend you post pictures and all the information you have (as well as an engaging story) to Beyond.ca

It's a Calgary based car forum that is much better equipped to mount an internet detective campaign for you than Calgarypuck is and they have been successful in the past when dealing with amateur thieves.

Well my bike has been recovered in less than great shape. Who ever had it crashed it early sunday morning in the back of a parked car :( when i went to go pick it up in the impound lot i walked right past it and didn't even recognize it since they painted it with what looks to be paint bought from home depot ,,, i can't decide if its worth re-building i'll prob have someone look at it ... i guess if anything it might make a good parts bike

CPS wouldn't even finger print it, so disappointing

I would insert pics from my laptop ... but how does one do that? lol

Hopefully they were injured as a result of the collision. Best bet is to get an insurance pay out so you can start fresh.

if i had Theft on the bike, i would have got a pay out ... unfortunately i was silly enough to decide to go this yr without it .... I 2 am also hoping they didn't exactly walk away scratch free

FlamesAddiction

That sucks.

Why don't the police take finger prints in these situations? I had a similar thing happen with a car before and the police didn't care at all (and it was a small town with really not much else happening).

What about any work it requires now that is has been in a wreck?

They said because it was stolen, and i did not give permission for said person to be on it they would not cover it even though i have collision ... and Vandalism falls under comprehensive insurance along with theft and fire

I think the police believe that it is essentially a waste of their time and resources to fingerprint, especially when they do not have suspects in mind.

I took a forensics science class while in university and one day we had an ident officer come and speak to the class. He said that it really gets on the nerves of officers when people ask why they're not treating their case like they would see on CSI (i.e. fingerprinting everything, taking blood samples, etc.). As he said the reality is doing all of these tests take money and resources away from more important cases when convictions are not likely.

I don't think the fingerprints would really prove anything. Anyone could have touched the bike before or after it was stolen.

Fingerprinting likely would have been a waste of time and effort in this case.

I think the easiest solution here is to delete this thread and start a new one called, "My buddy took my bike with my permission and crashed it". You collect on the insurance since it's covered with collision and get a new bike. Problem solved.

Yes, of course. Nothing like a little insurance fraud to get your way, and make up for your stupid mistake.

So, not to pour salt on the wound but to maybe have this serve as a lesson for others- how much are you out over this, and how much would comprehensive insurance have cost you?

canada_hdk21
10-22-2013, 05:43 PM
I am out about $13,500 ... and it would have cost me about an additional $1200 to have full coverage and $300 to install the security device the insurance company wanted me to have .. so all in all about $1500

Now here is where you may have something.

If they told you it was $1200 more to carry simple theft insurance, there is something wrong. I never insure motorcycles for collision, but always add theft and vandalism for something like $100 per year.

If it could be proven via a recorded phone call or quote they had grossly misquoted you, and you opted out based on that price, you may be able to take the insurer to task. It, under no circumstances I know of, costs $1200 to add theft coverage to a bike.

Just sayin.

1200$ for full coverage including collision ... after chatting with a few other friends they are saying they pay nothing close to that, at the most 750$ per yr with theft

You can add theft coverage without collision is what I am getting at, and it does not cost much, it's usually very cheap. Collision is the big ticket item on motorcycle insurance, not theft. It sounds like you have a poor understanding of how insurance works, and had an equally poor insurance advisor.

Not having theft on a motorcycle is insanity, given how cheap it is.

This. I think theft on mine was $75, whereas collision would have almost doubled the price.
