Well, he did try to give him to me and I declined for a couple hours but he had put him on waivers before I had changed my mind.

Well played by mjK. I paid him 2 3rds and 3.5m to take him. I made the mistake of not waiving him first because I thought who the hell would take on a 7m low 60s player prior to ufa. Clearly I was wrong...never assume.

For me, I was going to keep Lydman (who'll cost in the same neighbourhood as Volchenkov) but with having only 1 year vs 3 and in the same ball park overall, that works for me instead. They are basically interchangeable.

I am happy last week was a slow work week which me allowed to make that deal with Dallas BEFORE the Panthers could do it. We knew he would be calling Dallas as well. Although, unlike the Panthers there was no way we would take Hannan...but Volchenkov was worth the gamble to try this.

Happy it worked out fairly well for 3 teams. Dallas got rid of his contract, Columbus gets some cash and 3rds and Florida gets an OK dman they obviously wanted.

Win-win win?
