Sorry guys, you don't need to check your tickets, because mine was the winner.

(That would have been me had I bought a ticket)

Haven't checked my tickets yet (don't want to ruin my sleep) but I know my odds went up in a big way!

How did your odds increase?

If there were 10,000 tickets sold in Calgary, he had a 1:10,000 chance of having the winning ticket. Since he knows someone that had a losing ticket, his odds increased to 1:9,999

Really? I think I'd be okay with my sleep being ruined because I was excited about winning ten million dollars. I wouldn't be going to work the next day anyways.

Of course the odd time I don't get a ticket.

His odds would remain the same regardless of any of those facts though would they not? He doesn't stand a better chance now relative to two days ago.

The odds were 1:28M a couple days ago. Now we know for a fact that someone won in Calgary. Say there were 30M sold nationally, and 3M in Alberta. He bought one of those tickets. There are 3M in AB so he has 1:3M chance of owning the winning ticket. Let's eliminate 2M tickets in AB that were sold because they weren't in Calgary. So he now has a 1:1M chance. He knows 25 people who all bought four tickets. So you can eliminate 100 tickets. His odds are now 1:999,900.

That's the way I interpret it at least.

Now that there is a ticket that has won the probability that he has the winning ticket is either 0 or 1. It can be nothing in between.

I haven't checked mine, and probably won't for a few days more so I can continue to fantasize about what I'd do with my winnings.

Wow, the winning ticket was validated at the Marda Loop Petro Can, which is where I typically would buy my lotto tickets. Haven't bought a lotto max in a couple months though.

Oh good, one less person on the commute. That should drop time down to 19.53 minutes.

The lottery always seems to be wasted on those without an imagination. With his winnings, the guy's says he's gonna get some tattoos and a truck to match his Harley. Talk about wasted opportunity.

I like seeing people go balls out with their winnings and do something outlandish... that's why you dream about winning the lottery, so you can go nuts! Take a Virgin Galactic trip into space. Buy a Veyron. Turn into Hank Scorpio. But please don't be boring. What you do with your money is the one thing us non-winners have to be entertained by.

If I won 30-million, I would build a a bar called "CP Central" that would come complete with a hockey rink, driving range, paint-ball course, go-kart track, and a centralized location in the lounge for the (ridiculously hot) waitresses to mud wrestle like professionals. I would form a micro-brewery to make an exclusive, patented version of both "Heroine Beer" and "Kool-Aid."

I would then marry a deaf/mute nymphomaniac gymnast who owns a golf course.

And I would buy-out Comeau's contract.

Crazy, my first glance at the article was that I knew the wife. She WAS at the law firm (Davis) that I deal with for my company and have met her a lot of the years before meeting with my lawyer. Saw her earlier in February. Super friendly and always helpful with all our legal work. Really happy for her and her husband. They sound like down to earth folks that will manage this well. Davis will miss her for sure.

That's the whole reason you go on a loooong trip around the world.... we're talking months here. By the time you get home only the most persistent people would still be looking for handouts.

And that's when you hire someone to break knee caps.
