Good game for Irving to start. I believe the last time the Flames won in this building Karlsson got the start so maybe that's a good omen as for whatever reason this building seems to suck the life out of the Flames.

Flames get bitchslapped 2-1 in OT by the BJs.

Have faith in Iriving, however the Flames Columbus effort of old will show up.

3 - 1 Jackets

1-1 late in the third, then Irving gets left hanging in the wind. 3-1 Jackets with an EN at the end.

Columbus has a pretty fast team. Should be an entertaining game. 6-3 Flames.

Itse
02-07-2013, 07:26 AM
I want to put an optimistic prediction out there. 5-0 Flames.

I guess you could call this another must-win game, but I have a good feeling about it anyway. We don't need Irving to play lights out, and while all goalies sometimes have bad nights, I strongly believe that he can handle being a starting goalie for a few games.

What I want is another game like Detroit. It's not enough to beat Columbus every night, because even bad NHL teams can play pretty good sometimes, but it's certainly good enough to beat them most nights.

Detroit game was relatively promising, but I'm still not giving them any benefit of doubt until they're actually putting enough wins together.

If the primary scoring continues to improve, then they have a good chance. It's nice to get excited about the Stempniaks and Hudlers, but it's Iginla, Tanguay, Cammalleri who will have to win most of the games for the team.

Huntingwhale
02-07-2013, 08:24 AM
I'm hoping for a good effort and strong game against the BJs. If this was still Sutter coaching I would predict a 4-1 loss...but with Hartley at the helm we can always count on a strong team effort. 3-0 for the good guys, Irving with his first career shutout!

It's either 4-2 for us or 1-3 to them!

For years, it seems like the Flames have felt that they're all entitled to a rest day if Kipper gets one. It will be interesting to see if that's still the case. I think/hope that Hartley's influence and/or the fact that, even though he's the backup, Irving is our #1 healthy option, leads to a complete effort tonight. If we get that, we'll get the 2 points.

Flames continue their strong play and walk away with a convincing 4-1 victory. Backlund, Glencross and Stempniak break out his game with 2 goals and really control the offensive zone.

Irving lets in a weak early one but really settles down as the team rallies around him limiting CBJ to 21 shots.

kyuss275
02-07-2013, 09:15 AM
Big game for the flames and big game for Irving. Need Irving to have a solid game. Don't want Feaster to hit panic button and trade assets for a back up goalie.

Flames win 4-1.

Iggy, Cammi, Hudler and Gio with goals.

Calgary4LIfe

Flames win 9-5. Cammy and Iginla both with 2. Backlund with a hat trick, Snickers with one, and Stajan with one.

I don't think that's the case at all, I think it was more the case that, when the backup was in, they were trying to be more careful, more defensive. The result was spending the whole night in their own end.

It will be interesting to see if they play the same up-tempo game tonight that we have seen recently, or if they revert.

Bottomline: they have to put up a W with the backup in there. Better for Irving and everyone concerned if they win 9-8 than if they lose 1-0 in OT.

I find myself really looking forward to watching this team play. Not anywhere near as many prolonged fire drills in their own end, lots of puck possession, shots, offensive chances and control of the play.

Another good game to prove if this incarnation of the flams is in fact different. Columbus is 5-2-3 in the last 10 games against us. I doubt they have a better record against anyone in that span. Flams would win against Detroit and lose to Columbus. Time to show us how you play against weaker competition boys!

For me this is more a statement game than any other game the Flames have had this season. Historically (with the exception of Edmonton) the Flames usually seem to throw up a dud against inferior competition. For that reason I am going to say they lose 3-2, hopefully I am wrong.

Going to be interesting to see if the teams psyche has changed at all with the new coaching staff and philosophies. Historically, we have always played down to other teams levels, and played up to others.

This is the first "bad" team we have played. Lets see if they play down to them.

The Oilers don't count as that is a rivalry. I guess the Avs could count, and while that 3rd was bad, we generally outplayed them.

I don't think that is true.

Look at vancouver. Burrows is their only definite in the shoot out because he is money with that stupid move.

I bet guys like Brodie and Derek smith have a couple flashy moves. Ability and puck skill.

Most of the time I think it's all about having a move and just going for it. If you miss, you miss.

When I watch toews, tanguay, etc, they all dictate and force the goalie to open something up. Iginla, with that sweeeeeeeeeeeet dangle on luigi was the same thing. Same with joker and his 5 hole move. They all came in though with a single distinct move in their head before the goalie presents anything.

I'm with many ... really curious to see if they can walk out a third straight solid performance, this time against a weaker opponent.

They do that and I'd surmise that they've bought into Hartley like they've bought into nobody since Sutter the 1st.

Would be a pretty good sign.

Plus two wins, and then you can drop a Vancouver game to conclude a successful trip and then hopefully get Kiprusoff back for Monday.

Fingers crossed.

Not sure if Rich Sutter was that good with us.

You mean Brian, no? Rich is the only one that hasn't worked for the Flames.

haha. i totally forgot about Brian.

No Rich is the 1st Sutter to be with the Flames.

Holy crap. If calgarypuck existed back then, I would have been banned 10 times over with Brian Sutter as our coach.

In what capacity?

From Wikipedia:
"Rich is the only Sutter brother to have neither played for nor worked for the Flames."

Ron (his twin) played for us if that's what you mean.

Flames win. You don't play this good and lose only to win one and start losing again.

I am convinced that this team is a really good team. They will give the BJ's fits all night. Irving doesn't even have to work that hard tonight for his first win of the year.

5-2 Flames.

Brent Sutter would probably have something to say about that.

Not expecting Cammalleri to play for #Flames (https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Flames&src=hash) vs CBJ. Figure Glencross joins Tanguay line. Comeau with Backlund and Stemp. Jackman in.

Kipper watching from the pressbox... should be interesting.

Glencross turns tom inside out and scores on tom's first and only shift. Flames win 4-2.

I know Stajan has been playing well with the Czeks, but i would like to see Backlund put in between Hudler and Cervenka for tonight.

It's probably best that Jackman is in tonight as they're playing one of the toughest teams in the NHL. Jared Boll and Derek Dorsett need to be kept in check and I think Begin and Jackman can at least slow them down a bit.

Nice to see if the Flames can put away an inferior team this season. Especially after the Detroit win they should have some momentum at the moment.
