For a fifth rounder:

The New Jersey Devils today acquired center Andrei Loktionov from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for their fifth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Loktionov will be assigned to the American Hockey League’s Albany Devils. The announcement was made by Devils’ President/CEO/General Manager Lou Lamoriello.

Wow, wish we would have been in on that price.

not a bad deal for the Devils. Thought Loktionov would fetch a higher return.

No kidding, can't really be a bad deal for the devils

Seems very low price for Loktionov. A young responsible center with some offensive upside for a 5th.

They have assigned him to Albany already.

It's out there, but Loktionov to NJD for a 5th. Center depth in LA. Stoll/Fraser signed summer extensions; Kopitar/Richards inked long term.

Fair enough, but shouldn't the Kings have been able to get a better return than that?

What the heck has he done to make anyone think he is worth more than a mid rounder?

Blah i'd rather have PLLLLLLL for a 5th rounder........

Would have been worth a shot at a fifth round pick. Might have needed a third or fourth trading within the confrence.

First of all, I am no fan. However, he is more likely to become a regular NHLer than a random 5th rounder is (plus is further along developmentally).

I would consider him pretty similar to Horak. And I would not trade Horak for a 5th. (and yes, I know he was drafted as a 5th)

Well, he's played in the NHL and not looked useless, so the idea that he'll become serviceable vs. the reasonably remote chance that any individual 5th round selection's going to pan out is probably a good bet.

It's almost like Darryl is making trades there.

Better fire up that package of Butler and Nemiscz and see what you can get from the Kings for that.

I'm sure Brent has great things to say about Butler and Nemiscz is one of Darryl's own picks.

Yup, would have taken that chance for a 5th, even though I don't think he's anything special.

Love how people thought hed fetch at least a 2nd our a legit NHL player.
I think it had something to do with Feaster giving up a 2nd for Paul Byron (or a 2nd for dumping Kotalik's contract, however you want to see it) and I'd say Loktionov is a step up from Byron.

I thought the title said Lokomotiv the KHL team.
I must be a bit dyslexic haha

Byron's last 3 yrs in AHL
39gp-21pt
67gp-53pt
57gp-33pt
And NHL totals of 30gp-7pt

Loktionov
32gp-30pt
34gp-31pt
29gp-24pt
And NHL totals of 59gp-14pt

If he's a step up from Byron it's not a big one, but there's a huge difference between a 2nd and a 5th.

I think that 2nd pretty clearly was to drop kotalik so the flames would have the space to offer Richards a huge deal.

Regehr + Kotalik was essentially the cap hit of the deal offered to Richards.

yeah, IIRC they initially agreed on Butler and Byron for Regehr. Feaster then wanted to dump Kotaliks contract and had to include a 2nd to get it done.

The way I remember it the initial deal was Regehr for Butler/Byron. Feaster wanted to include Kotalik, Buffalo countered by saying they would take him, but wouldn't include Byron in the deal. Feaster added the 2nd to keep Byron in the deal. So you could say dumping Kotalik was worth a 2nd or Byron was worth a 2nd and you'd be right in either case (at least in how the deal went down.)

True. So I guess as it turns out, a 2nd for Byron was too much, 5th for Lokti is too little, or somewhere in between.
