I bet that he made a deal with his wife that if he could gain 50 lb for a season, he'd shave the beard.

Nothing makes me laugh like Sunny. It's like the best parts of Trailor Park boys and Seinfeld, which is basically crack to me. Super excited.

That's not Mac, it's an ex UFC fighter playing Dennis. They had a preview on Facebook in which they re-cast everyone,
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=4619121404861

Charlie with Candice Cameron, Dee with Xibit, Mac was Haley Joel Osment and Frank was Andrew Dice Clay. I'm looking forward to the premier as well, last season had some great moments, but some weak ones as well, we'll see how many good seasons they have left

Dude, that wasn't a pic at the bottom of my OP, it was a Youtube clip of a 30 second promo showing all the "new" characters you're talking about. When I mentioned Mac losing mass, I meant when they show him at the very end of the clip. Looks like he's lost a lot of weight, plus for the first time ever (at least that I can recall), was clean shaven.

It's actually kinda eerie how much Haley Joel Osment looks like Mac in that clip, haha I wonder how much Rob McElhenney likes hearing that...

Is this playing on FX Canada? I was looking at the guide the other day and saw Wilfred playing in the time slot that they say "its always sunny" is supposed to be playing.
Is this on another network in Canada?

I thought last season got off to a bit of a slow start, but by mid-season on I thought it was good. Chardee MacDennis, How Mac Got Fat, Thundergun Express, even the High School Reunion were all solid episodes.

I agree Sunny's not in its prime anymore, but its still a solid show. I simply don't get how some people think it needs to be sent off to pasture.

It's Always Sunny in Philly is an odd show. It has no likable characters, nothing ever works out for the gang, the stories are always about weird events.

I'm surprised its lasted this long.

I personally love the show though.

LouCypher

I thought the season premiere was pretty decent, the beginning of the episode and the whole tie in back to the original pop-pop episode was neat. I think the season will save its best for the mid-way point. It feels like it takes a century of waiting between each season but the small doses of 13 episodes per season really keep it funny and not overdone IMO.

Keep watching, it just keeps getting better as the seasons go on. By season 4-5 it's all-time.

Like Parks & Rec (or any good show I guess), one of Sunny's biggest strengths is their secondary characters, which they're good at not over-using. Mac's parents, Charlie's mom/uncle, the McPoyle's, the waitress, etc. My favourite's probably Cricket, I love how much trashier he gets as the seasons go on.

Sainters7
10-17-2012, 08:18 AM
My favourite Cricket scene's probably the "Day in the Life" when he comes on Dennis/Dee's radio show. Haha man that cracks me up, especially his voice. Wish they had the full scene on Youtube, love when he sucks on the lemon. "Ohhhhh, that is tart. That is very tart". I need to find a way to work that quote into a conversation.

I enjoyed "The Gang Recycles Their Trash," but it's strage for a popular show devote an entire episode to mocking how predictable and formulaic it has become. It'll be interesting to see if, in upcoming episodes, they try to break away from what they've been recycling for the past few seasons.

Glenn Howerton (aka Dennis) has been gold on Twitter lately. He was vocal about his Obama support, and some followers lashed out at him for his celebration tweets after Obama won again.

An exchange between him & a follower the next day apologizing for ripping him after the election:

Ya Dennis has been my favourite character on Sunny for the last few seasons, I'm glad they've been pumping him so much this year.

lol I forgot about lethal weapon 5, will have to rewatch that. And for old episodes the one where mac and charlie die was pretty good.

Charlie: Oh, my God. (shouting) How do hobos fit all their stuff into a bandanna? It doesn't make sense, man! We're gonna need, like, a towel or a tablecloth or something! But (groans) it's not gonna look cool! We're gonna look like a-holes!

Mac: The only way that my dad is not going to kill us is if he thinks we're already dead.
Charlie: Oh, great, I was hoping you'd say that. Great, let's kill ourselves. Let's do it.
Mac: No! No, you didn't let me finish.
Charlie: It's no problem, dude. I'm totally on board. OK, I'm gonna grab a knife. I'm gonna jab it into your neck. I'll yank it out. OK, then your blood's gonna start going everywhere—
Mac: No, buddy, listen!
Charlie: You'll die in five to ten minutes, and then depending on how horrific that looks, I'll probably do it myself, too.

Charlie: If we were gonna kill ourselves, it would be awesome, right?
Mac: Yeah. Yeah, if we were gonna kill ourselves, it would be with class, right? I mean, because if we—
Charlie: Of course it would be with class! What do you think, I'm not gonna die with class?
Mac: Maybe some type of explosion?
Charlie: Of course there's gonna be an explosion! You think I'm not gonna explode?
Mac: I'm thinking, Charlie, it would be some kind of blaze of glory.
Charlie: Of course it's gonna be a blaze of glory! I'm going down right now. (squirts lighter fluid on his arm)

Ya, Mac & Charlie Die is easily in my top 5. I love that whole funeral scene, with the Mac & Charlie goodbye video. And Dennis' whole eulogy just turning into a rant about how he won't burn the duster.

Some solid quotes in that one. Loved Charlie after convincing Dee to be homeless like him & Mac. "Ok, so what's your bean situation? You got any beans on you, or what's up?"

One of my favourite lines this season

Dennis: No, no see this doesn't add up, this doesnt make any sense, why is this going well??? Can the girl not smell Charlie?...Can the guy not see Dee!?!?...Somethings fishy

Ya Charlie's money as Serpico, love all the old nostalgia shows they mix in there. Pretty heavy dose of the 80's usually of course.

LouCypher
07-17-2013, 08:41 AM
I feel like season 4 and 5 had the most gems in them for me, just so many good episodes there cant think of ones I don't like from those seasons. Although as for the whole series there are only a few episodes I don't like quite as much but then when I rewatch those I seem to catch more jokes when I didn't like the episode as much the first time around.

Sainters7
07-17-2013, 09:37 AM
Ya before I checked the episode guide, I had already assumed it'd be between 4 and 5. But I was surprised how many solid ones 6 had. The area where I may set 4 & 5 apart from 6 is they both have a potential "best ever" episode (4= Mac & Charlie Die, 5= The Gang Gives Frank an Intervention), where 6 is missing this, IMO. Also, 5 has the best (in terms of funniest) season finale I think.

...ah screw it, for the sake of closure I'll say 5. That's what I thought it'd be anyway before I looked.

Matata
07-17-2013, 12:28 PM
I'd say 3 - 7 are all really close. I give to 7 because I love dark humour and 7 is crazy dark. They had an opportunity to build on the shows growing popularity to reach a broader audience, instead, they went with vomiting blood, pedophiles, dead babies and obesity. I respect the hell out of that.

Game of Thrones’ Writers Take On ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

The “Game of Thrones” creators first met Mr. McElhenney and his wife, Kaitlin Olson, another star of “It’s Always Sunny,” several months ago at a party in Los Angeles and confessed their love for the comedy. “Like all actors,” Mr. Benioff and Mr. Weiss said, “they respond well to worship.”

As it turned out, “Game of Thrones” is one of a few shows that Mr. McElhenney and Ms. Olson, who are parents of two young sons, still watch regularly. “Once those kids are in bed,” Ms. Olson said, “we get real grown up.”

When Mr. Weiss and Mr. Benioff hit upon an idea for “It’s Always Sunny” — a gloss on the novel and short story “Flowers for Algernon,” in which Mr. Day’s ne’er-do-well character is convinced that a scientific experiment is making him smarter — they suggested it to Mr. McElhenney.

Also - and I don't remember who said this - when someone said "oh so you're like the NRA" at the end. I lost it.

First episode was better though I agree.

Thought the last 2 have been really good, especially last week's one about trying to win an award. Saw an interview with Glenn Howerton over the summer talking about how he thinks they've never won an award because they don't "play the game" and go to functions or anything, which this ep obviously was really about.

I knew this show has always been snubbed by the Emmy's, but I didn't realize they've never even been nominated. For a show as brilliant as this has been over the years to never even get nominated, while Big Bang Theory cleans up every year like its 90's Seinfeld kinda shows you how ridiculously political the whole awards process is.

Whats amazing is how solid every episode of this show is. Very few that miss and even those get better with time. To me Always Sunny is right up there at number 1 or 2 with Seinfeld in best sitcoms ever.

My favourite episode is still the abortion episode from season 1.

Flowers for Charlie was absolutely amazing. The final scene with him in the wheel chair and his speech with the accent, absolutely classic Charlie gold.

Watched the new Lethal Weapon 6 episode last night, was laughing so hard I woke up the girlfriend. So many great 80's movie references, the Top Gun beach volleyball scene in the gymnasium was classic. As was the saxophone solo at the altar, in lieu of wedding vows. That's a damn good idea..

IMO this has been the best season in 3 years, may even be better than 6. Such a shame there's only 1 episode left on the year, 10 episode seasons are such a tease.

It was.... OK. Starting to feel a little Simpsony where they're grasping at whacky storylines. Kinda just miss the gang coming up with their more simple schemes,

Charlie was going to murder a midget, didn't like that. Charlie was always the more empathetic standoffish type, going full psycho was weird. Also did not like the cop out in the last episode, they should've died and Mac should've been gay already.

Where does Mac and Dennis live now that they burned their apartment like dumbasses?

First few episodes of the season not as memorable but then once we got to Mac and Dennis move to the Suburbs pure greatness. That episode I have watched 5 or 6 times now. The way Dennis sounds when there is the knock at the door "well that must be our nosey neighbor Wally coming to see what all the fighting's about" The delivery is so cliche and perfect.

The tough part is the tremendously long wait between seasons but 10 episodes is probably the right dose each year to try and keep it fresh. I do think though when things get rehashed or revisited it really pays off to have seen every episode from the start. Its like they reward long time viewers with inside and ongoing jokes.

The Paddy’s Pub gang is officially all here: The stars of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (https://tvline.com/tag/its-always-sunny-in-philadelphia/) confirmed that co-star Glenn Howerton (Dennis) will be back as a full-fledged cast member for the upcoming Season 13.

“He’s in pretty much every episode,” star/creator Rob McElhenney told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Friday. (In fact, Howerton appears in both episodes screened in advance for critics.) The writers “talked about all sorts of different ideas” about how to address Dennis’ possible absence, he admits, “before we knew that Glenn was actually coming back.”

Then Macs routine at the end, at first I was like oh thats cool, good way to 'show' his Dad. Then I was like ok wow how long does this go on for? And then I was like wow he really put a lot of prep and practice into this, respect.

I agree this show probably had the best 'coming out' story arc for a character ever. It was a slow organic process and by the time Mac told the gang they were like 'ya big deal Mac, we've known forever, now lets get back to drinking!'

Matata

I think the dance worked as a comedic piece and laughed a few times during it. Intercutting it with frank and the prisoners gobsmacked reactions, how utterly unexpected it was and how drawn out it was made for good comedic fodder. Kind of like when family guy would do the Conway Twitty songs. It's absurdist humour, which makes it a tougher sell, but it worked for me.

DeluxeMoustache
11-10-2018, 07:21 PM
I got a kick out of how it played out, whole weird explanation Mac gave Frank being mirrored in the dance, which is somehow elaborately stages for Mac’s dad, then that Luther leaves, the gal reassures Mac that it is all going to be okay, and then Frank eventually ‘gets it’.

So no cathartic moment for Mac with Luther. No “I love you, son.” And not that Mac necessarily respects Frank or wants his approval, and Frank is a bad role model, and generally awful person. But he is, somehow, after all the years and shenanigans, in a certain way the gang’s surrogate dad.

I also like how Mac wrestled with his whole identity and the gang generally didn’t give a crap one way or the other

Watched the finale last night. Devito was hysterical in that episode. Maybe the best I've seen him in the show. He's such a disgusting goof in the show that I often forget it's because he's such a talented actor. He's a natural in this role. Good stuff by him.

Can't say enough about Mac's performance. Was waiting for the punchline to end it. But I think it was important how it ended without one. Some things in life are more important than cheap laughs, and I'm glad such an influential show like this one was able to parlay the message they wanted. Mack was indeed, able to find his pride!

Also nice to see the reaction the finale had within the LGBQT community. I took a peak at the actors Instagram accounts and it's nothing but praise and often tears with the direction they went.

Fantastic ending and I hope they come back for season 14. But even if it were to end on that note, I'd be satisfied.

Necro bump with the premiere this week...anyone know how to watch new episodes on a streaming site?

I hear Disney+ has Sunny but apparently not the last few seasons? I see it's on Hulu but I think that's still blocked in Canada? Thanks if you know! Need my Sunny fix..

They should be here, but it doesn't look like they've added yesterday's yet: https://www.fxnowcanada.ca/shows/its-always-sunny-in-philadelphia/

We've been watching recently on FX (cable) and noticed they play only the last few seasons over and over again. I wonder if that's because of the streaming licenses.

I didn't watch last night's episode but I'm looking forward to it. It's consistently deplorable and hilarious.

Not streaming but all 15 seasons are available on my Shaw on Demand. One of the reasons I still have Shaw. Also every 30 for 30. Good stuff.

I watched the episode and it was pretty good. Basically a recap of what the gang did in 2020 and how what they did tied into the crazy news stories of the last year.

There were 2 new episodes this week. The second one was them making a "woke" version of a Lethal Weapon sequel.

New season is starting strong. The inflatable furniture gags in the first episode were brilliant, and the title card cut in the 2nd episode had me laughing really hard

Charlie, Mac and Dennis are doing a semi-regular podcast, watching an old episode the night before and then talking about it (and many other things)
on the podcast- talking about what worked, what didn't etc. It's obvious that they are taking notes and trying to go back to what really worked during it's heyday and it's really helping. I thought the 2 new episodes were phenomenal and looking forward to the rest of the new season! Watching the "Kitten Mittens" episode right now
