Looks like Shaw Movie Club is live now. $12 a month for unlimited video streaming.

The Movie Club by Shaw features unlimited access to hundreds of the best Hollywood hit movies. Watch as many as you want, instantly on your TV — the only limit is the number of hours in your day. And with titles being added monthly, you’ll never run out.

The movies are much newer than Netflix, but it doesn't have TV shows. I might cancel the movies package on my Shaw and give this a go. The selection is pretty good.

Looking at that list of movies, they don't seem any more recent than the free movies offered through Movie Central in VOD.

Pass for now. It'll be interesting to see how current they're able to keep it.

Looks pretty good...Movie Central on Demand doesn't stay free forever, the selection changes every month.

Is there an app so I can watch it on my ipod, phone, tablet, laptop, desktop, or refrigerator?

No, no, not yet (), yes, yes, put a laptop in your refrigerator!

I think if you look closely there are HD titles, but neither the apps or the website handle them right now.

IMO it's not worth it if you already have Movie Central, most of the movies are Movie Central movies.

P.S. Movie Club is a bad word on my team.

way better selection than netflix.

Unless I'm missing something I only see 157 movies at the moment all of which are blockbusters that I'm sure a lot of people have already seen.

Netflix, even in Canada, has hundreds of movies with many options outside of Hollywood's best boxoffice hits.... Not to mention it's cheaper and offers TV shows.

Kudos to Shaw for attempting to adapt however!

And thats a problem? Would you rather have 3rd rate movies?

Hmm, $12/month does seem better than the premium channels. But why would it be priced at such a premium to Netflix, especially when there are no TV shows?

I am not sure how it works, but if I am thinking of it right, it shouldn' t consume bandwidth if you are watching it on your TV, so you don't need an increased internet package to accommodate it. Of course viewing through a browser would be the same as netflix and consume bandwidth.

Can anyone confirm that?

For me, I am thinking it will replace my movie channels and save me a few bucks a month.

I can't watch "Megashark versus Crocosaurus" on the Shaw Movie Club.

Looks like Netflix is here to stay.

Correct, it is separate from your internet data usage. You can have Movie Club without internet service, for instance.

I think Shaw is charging $12.99 because they are banking on a large customer base (like my parents) that want a service like this but don't even begin to know how to access Netflix.

And it will count towards your data cap. Shaw missed the boat on this one

Title of article is tricky it will count if you watch it on your computer. On your tv is still free

Actually that is a good thing... Net Neutrality should be maintained.

Movie club delivered to the set top doesn't count towards any data usage as far as I know. This story is so muddled.

Even if it didn't count at all, why is this a problem? This is a service for Shaw subscribers. It's not open to other ISPs, so why would it be a problem if Shaw content doesn't count towards data caps?

You only get "free" movies on Movie Central VOD if you subscribe to Movie Central already. Might be a bit redundant if you already have MC but for those of us that don't, it's a different story.

How much is it to subscribe to movie central compared to movie club?

Movie Central or Super Channel can be added for $17/month according to the Shaw Personalizer. With either package, you get four SD movie channels and two HD movie channels.

When you select Movie Central, one of the four SD channels is HBO Canada and one of the HD channels is also HBO Canada.

When I had MC a few years ago, there was no additional cost to get the HD channels so long as you had the HD equipment and already subscribed to the SD channels. I have no idea if this is still the case.

Browsing for information about the availability of Shaw Movie Club, I came across this in an FAQ on the Shaw Gateway Experience page:
