How does the pool work, do you need to pick the entire bracket in advance, or can you change your picks for future rounds after the tournament starts?

You pick your bracket once. You can not change after you have made your picks. You have to submit your pics before the tournament begins. If all your teams lose in the first round, that's it. But that would be pretty spectacular if you could do that.

ever wonder how many different combinations are possible on a 64 team bracket? how hard would it be to do a perfect bracket?

9,223,372,036,854,775,808

Even if every person in America filled one out (300 million people),
the probability of someone winning is:

300,000,000
----------- = .00000000003253

mind boggling numbers.

Great tradition in that chant. If you ever have the opportunity, you should go to Lawrence and see Allen Fieldhouse and all of the history on the wall. It's quite overwhelming.

The chant was originally supposed to be "Rah, Rah, Jayhawk, KSU' and it started in 1886. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Chalk,_Jayhawk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Chalk,_Jayhawk#cite_note-0)

Being at a game or anywhere when that is chanted is really overwhelming and emotional.

Nope. It's a refreshing change.

It all depends on where the bubble is. Some of those bubble teams are better, much better, than some of the teams that got automatic bids by winning their conference tournaments.

With Kyrie Irving expected to be back for the Blue Devils that might change the Final Four for a lot of people.

My office celebrates the opening day every year- we all go to the one of the main meeting rooms and drink beer and eat pizza and watch the games. I *Do* have to work until noon, but after that, it's free beer and pizza for a couple of hours and off to the pub. My kids are on Spring Break in Texas and it's just my husband/me wearing our green, and ready to roll.

Bad part is- I have to be at work at 8am tomorrow- but hey! Not gonna think about that now! :)

That's usually who wins these things. People who watch College Basketball and follow it religiously tend to over analyze things. I've heard of chicks just picking teams because they like their name/jerseys/mascots etc and end up beating all the experts.

I don't really care if I win or not but it's just fun to fill out a couple brackets and follow the tourney. This is one of my favorite times of year.

With the way all their shots are falling and the bounces are going their way Gonzaga looks like one of those teams that get the big upset in the first round and then get killed by 30 in the second round.

BYU is a perfect math-up for them as it is the overrated Fradette versus the Zags but really they are a hugely flawed team that is ready to be killed by the first decent team they face. Lucky for them BYU (as usual) is not that good.

If other guys were in the same position as him they could have lead the NCAA in scoring as well.

A guy like Nolan Smith played better, was equally important to his team and lead his team to a much better season and yet because he didn't chuck it up 100 times a game he doesn't get as much credit.

Besides calling Fradette overrated....Explain how the Zags are a hugely flawed team?

Hugely flawed because they just don't have the talent that they have in the past. They probably were seeded a little low as an 11 but they are a second tier team in the tournament and their average play this year showed that.

I would have thought that with all the money spent on players and their families Kentucky would have got more than a 4 seed and two close wins but who knows those pay-offs might end up working out later in the tournament.

When Ohio State beats George Mason tomorrow, Ohio State plays UK meaning that should be it for them.

Absolutely agreed. Talent level just caught up to them.

Great season by the Mountaineers. I really wanted to see them give Ohio State a tough tough game. Losing Joe Mazzulla sucks, although I'd way rather lose seniors then freshmen. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Huggins can do next year.

Kentucky has more talent but WV really came out flat in the second half and let Kentucky back into it which is why I said they choked. If they had played with the same defensively intensity in the second half they would have won that game.

Dont disagree especially when it comes to Pitt. Have to say though that both UConn and Syracuse are playing very well. ND will be an interesting watch tonight as well...that FL St team is suffocating on D and really wear out their opponents.

I have a feeling we see an upset today beyond NC possibly going out to Wash....OSU, Purdue and Kansas all possibles IMO. Odd year for NCAA Bball...just no completely dominant teams. Though I would be the first to begrudgingly say that OSU could be that team if they get through today.

Meh....yes the first half was in favor foul wise for the Heels, but the second half is the opposite. The Huskies are just having problems under the net with NC's size.

besides, the officials are all from other conferences from either team so i am not sure why they would favor anyone over anyone else.

Washington is making way too many mistakes to win this but it certainly didn't help them that Henson, Zeller and Barnes were free to foul any Husky around the basket without any fear of getting called.

When do tickets go on sale for this type of event? Or is it too late?

Keep checking on the NCAA site. They usually announce when tickets go on sale for the early round and regional games. A warning: they keep the best tickets (lower "bowl"-type) for the teams to sell to their own fans until the teams are announced early in March. It's usually around November or December when they go on sale, you fill out a form/online form and then get the tickets mailed to you.

I've been to two (first/second round in Tampa 2008 and third/fourth round in Syracuse in errr 2005 - the year NC won) sets of games, and the seats weren't great but the atmosphere was fantastic. My wife wants to go next year, but somewhere warm, but I don't know - we have a 2-year old that loses interest in games very quickly, so I think we'll have to go to the regionals and hope he can enjoy it for a few hours.

They belong, clearly. However, they are lucky to be there. They needed a phantom foul with .8 seconds remaining to get out of Wichita with a win and didn't exactly have a slam dunk resume even with that win.

There is no denying, however, that they have more than lucked their way to the Sweet 16.

Henry Hasselbeck isn't quite a one-in-million shot.

More like No. 103 out of 5.9 million.

That's where the 5-year-old son of Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck ranks in his NCAA tournament bracket on ESPN.com (http://espn.com/) after 48 games. That puts Henry in the top 1 percent of all entries. Sister Mallory isn't too shabby, either. She ranks in the top 3 percent.

Dude is 70 years old and whatever sport he calls, he calls it like its the only one he knows.

Even in a fast moving game like college Bball he is nailing it, knows nuances of games, who each player is, emotes the momentum no matter who has it and when it gets more intense...etc. The guy is a classic....and his voice is a beauty.

Arizona's team 3 point percentage this year is 39.7 and their 2 point percentage is 51. If you make that 50% shot you still only have another 50% chance to win the game in OT. So it's essentially a 25% to 39.7% chance. Also, I always found 3's easier to offensive rebound.

I still think they should go for an easy shot by DWilliams to go to OT. You just mentioned the team's percentage this year is 39.7% and chances of winning in OT is 50%. Don't you think their chances of winning is better in going to OT than 3 pointer. To me that's just it just makes so much sense to go for a better percentage especially with a player like DWilliams who can shoot outside or drive to the basket. You just mentioned the team's percentage this year is 39.7% and chances of winning in OT is 50%. Don't you think their chances of winning is better in going to OT than 3 pointer.

I completely understand your view of getting it to your best player for the best chance to keep the game going.

My point was that it isn't a 100% sure thing to go to overtime with a 2. It's about a 50% shot even to get it there. Combine that with a 50% chance to win once you are there is where I get the 25% chance to 39.7%.

Having said that, I would've liked some ball movement before taking the 3.
EDIT: I should clarify inside-out ball movement. I love kick-out 3's.

UNC are getting killed by 3 pointers by Kentucky and their inept 3-pointers as well. Everytime they get closer, Kentucky answers back. I don't like this game so far. UNC needs to play smart and play good defense.

Kansas got out coached by VCU. Took em a whole half to figure out you can't give VCU the 3 point shot.

Great run by Kansas to start the second half but couldn't maintain the momentum. FT shooting was bad and the same goes for field goals and 3 point shots. Not a good day for Jayhawk fans :(

Butler vs. VCU.. I think CBS execs just killed themselves.

I don't know - I'd be more inclined to watch cinderellas than the same old teams.

that sucks!! I think that last 3 pointer by Kentucky was only a 2 pointer.

Barnes from UNC on the other hand made some bad decision on a forced 3 pointer. Not a good decision.

It's over!! No #1 and #2 seed teams in the Final Four this year.

That sucks!! Kentucky deserved the win today. Their big guys(Brandon Knight and Liggins) played the way a star player who is supposed to play. UNC was just plain bad on 3-pointers and played awful on 3-point defense. They also got into foul trouble early.

Man, my family is so pumped right now. Some of it went to the University of Kentucky and are diehard fans. Brandon Knight has been unreal in this tournament making clutch shot after clutch shots. Kentucky has hit their 3's this year where as last year vs WVU they hit 0.

Whoever wins the pick em contest is either clairvoyant, or completely oblivious to college basketball.

There is no other rational explanation.

What an incredible tournament.

This thing is set up for UConn/Kentucky winner, but I have a feeling Butler might pull it out.

Congrats to VCU. Makes me wonder what might have happened had the ref not called that foul on Joe Ragland with .8 seconds to go. It's crazy how one play in a game 3 weeks before the tournament can have such a large effect.

The replay clearly showed his toe behind the line, it was a good 3.

VCU winning and winning is awesome to watch. I wish more sports did a tournament like this. Too bad the Memorial Cup wasn't something similar to this set up, even though Memorial Cup is also fine as it is.

I was watching the VCU-Butler game earlier but had to stop with few minutes left. Butler was winning. The difference in the game was Butler's 3-point shooting and VCU pretty much relying on one guy compared to Butler's pretty dimensional team. It wasn't an exciting game though. Butler definitely deserves the win on that game. I was cheering for VCU on that game and that was not the same VCU team last week. Hence the lost.

UConn is ahead after the first half. Go HUSKIES!!! I just love watching that Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lamb.

you are right. After watching the replays a few times, it was definitely a 3-pointer but it was close to being a 2-pointer though.

Bah! I was so close. I'm proud I had the left half of the F4 right... way off on the other half, but I bet most people are. I was just happy to be in contention! Usually I'm out by the end of the first day.

That 3-pt shot Kentucky took at the end (was it Liggins?) was boneheaded. You had a ton of time on the clock, drive the ball, if there's nothing, look for the shot. Instead, force up a 3 from 5 feet behind the line, contested. Wonder why that one missed

Nice, very entertaining game, particularly the second half that just went back and forth. Rare that a team gets outscored 27-3 on 3-pointers and still wins; I love watching Kemba Walker. Not sure what sort of pro he'll turn into (that height is going to be an issue).

Usually I am against the 3-pointer at the end of the game when a team is losing by 2 but I don't mind that shot. Liggins been putting the ball 3-pointers late in the game so he's the best choice. I also agree that they could have try to for 2-pointer as well.

I actually got scared there for a bit and thought Kentucky will win it. Then suddenly Brandon Knight started forcing the ball. He is a good player and I am an NBA GM, i would pick him as an early pick because he is a good and tall point guard. The only knack against this team is he makes some boneheaded decision a lot of times. He is still young though. Is he a freshman, junior or what? How many more years is he eligible to play in the NCAA. I am not a fan of Kentucky so I really follow him.

That was a good game though. I really think UConn Huskies will beat the Butler Bulldogs on Monday.

He's a freshman, so he's got 3 more years of eligibility, though I don't know the NBA rules on underclassmen.

I agree - the first game wasn't as exciting. I hope Butler can pull it out, I don't like UConn and never have (grew up watching a lot of Syracuse, maybe that's why). Second chance in a row for Butler in the final... hope that the "experience" helps them, though that's never really worked in the past (e.g Michigan in the 1990s).

Overall though, I hope it's not a blowout.

I am not sure if they are allowed to go to NBA Draft that early but I could be mistaken. If I were them, i would stay a little longer in the NCAA. Kentucky always have a good basketball program and staying will definitely help them grow and be ready for the big time.

Just need one year of Europe/NCAA for NBA eligibility.

UK has been a great program however, recently John Calipari has been about one and done players. Last year he had 6(?) players leave as freshman (Edit: 5 left early and 4 as freshmen) and called it the biggest day in UK history. If the next year of UK recruits is as strong as they say it is then if I'm Doron Lamb I might not want to be lost in another stronger group of freshman.

EDIT:
"I made the statement, and I'll make it again, that it (NBA Draft) was the biggest day in Kentucky basketball history,'' Calipari said, "and I wasn't talking to the past. I was talking to the future.'' - John Calipari

The fact that I had a shot at 2nd place with the POS bracket that I turned in is a testament to how wacky this entire tournament has been. After the first weekend I was barely .500.

Worst Bball game I have ever witnessed.

I think Butler should change their name to "Clunk" university.

Brutal to watch.
