Default Wings and Jackets Swap D

GM Penney knew John-Michael Liles was playing well in the NHL but he didn't realize he was leading all dmen in points. Liles is having a SOLID year and is a player we feel can contribute next year (if he lasts that long). Coming to Columbus with Liles is young dman Jason Garrison and Phillipe Dupuis, both are playing in the NHL.

"We think Martin and Liles are both valuable assets to any team but we feel Liles has more to offer next season. We take a small hit on the back end right now but with the way this team has been performing, maybe a small trade like this is what it will take to get things going" said Penney.

"We also like the fact that we save $1mill in the deal as we look toward next year. With out big players like the Sedin sisters needing raises we will have to find a way to make this all work under the cap."

To Columbus:
John-Michael Liles
Jason Garrison
Philippe Dupuis

To Detriot:
Paul Martin

Wow. Maybe it's just me but I really really like this trade for Columbus. Easy win for them IMO.

Liles is only 65OV...does that change things?

I think the Wings win this deal big time. Get somebody 4 OV better now by giving up a 3rd pair guy and a young role player.

Even with Liles leading the league in points, I'd much rather have a more two-way defenseman like Martin.

Actually to be honest, I assumed he was around 67-68 so it does. Detroit wins the deal this year and I think in the future CBJ does. They should have similar ratings next year and Dupuis and Garrison are good depth guys at least for now.

With the way my team likes to give up goals I'm happy to add a guy like Martin.

Liles is having a great season for the Avs this year. Actually tied for the league lead in points with Kris Letang who just so happens to be on my team as well. With Liles it was his 60 defensive attribute that stuck out for me. While Martin is a 87 and is still very capable of contributing with offense.

Dupuis is a 4th liner in the NHL with Colorado. Kinda there version of Stefan Meyer. Garrison is the dark horse in the trade. He is getting the minutes of a 6th d-man for Florida this season but I think has been looking very solid.
