Default Marc Staal's hit on Stajan..UPDATED with video

Text book definition of a blindsite hit to the head.

I know this could have went into the PGT , but I feel it deserves it's own thread so it can get as much publicity as possible so the NHL can't just sweep this hit under the rug.

3 games would be adequate.

Default Stajan

How long do you think he will be out? I think he is gonna be gone at least a few months, that looked really bad!

I can imagine that Stajan is concussed and will be out well over a week.

No penalty on that call was just icing on the cake of a piss poor display of NHL reffing.

Should get a few games, wouldn't be surprised to see him get nothing. League and the "wheel of justice" is a joke.

For sure this is the type of hit that the league is going to look at.

I disagree. If Jokinen got 3 then Staal should get 6. Total lack of respect to his fellow player, had the oppurtunity to let up but didn't and drove forearm/elbow into his head. That is complete bs and he needs to be punished severely for it. But of course he won't because he hit a Flames player.

I'll have to watch it again. Thought it was a great clean hit.

I don't even think you could call that hit "grey area". Pretty blatant right to the head. Not thinking about a suspension right now though, I'm more concerned about losing another key player.

It's a good thing Olli is back next game.

No it really isn't.

It is the text book definition of a hit the receiving player did not see.

A blind side hit is one coming from a lateral or backside position, Staal was approaching Stajan from the front but Stajan wasn't paying attention as he was too busy admiring his pass.

These are the types of hits you hate to see but I actually doubt it will lead to a suspension. You can't suspend someone just because a player gets injured.

Last season yes. Definitely a blindside hit to head.

Clear elbow to the head. Should be 5 games likely though a small fine because of the teams involved.

Looked pretty bad, but him immediately moving to protect himself was a pretty good sign that it might not be a major as it appeared.

At least 2 weeks though.

Totally a dirty blindside hit but the NHL could care less about Matt Stajan or the Flames, Staal gets nothing.

Watching it live it looked clean but after seeing the replay, it looked like a headshot.

Interesting on what the league will do but my guess is they'll do what they always do and ignore it.

I'm not even going to relpy to anything you say because it is quite clear you love to play Devil's advocate and don't believe half of what you say.

I too think a long time. This is the kind of concussion that can lead to a difference in a players entire career. Stajan was absolutely rocked and his head took a major impact. He wasn't even wobbly afterwords, he couldn't figure out how to stand up period.

According to the Rangers broadcast, Staal squared up and hit Stajan north-south in the left shoulder. Glencross' hit on Drury was much, much worse...
