With several days off of simming, GM Penney had an opportunity to take a really good look at his club. There was several nice pieces but he did not think he had a team to make a strong push and do some damage in the playoffs. With no guarantees this year and several teams struggling, Penney decided to go all out and try to build a real competitive team in as little of time as possible. Overall the club had come a LONG way from the only good asset being Patrick Kane but now we feel we can compete.
Byfuglien - Martin
Coburn - Mezsaros
Lebda - Meech
Auld
Halak
We significantly upgraded our forwards and moved Big Byf back to D. Got a lot younger in goal but didn't downgrade. I think we'll take a run at the cup now...with a couple more moves we should be ready. Watch out suckers!
The Moral of the Story: Trading works! If your team is average, start making deals and the pieces will fall into place. Trade, trade, trade...it's fun too!

Trading works but if one team is getting a lot better - it probably means someone is getting worse.
In order for bad teams to get better, someone else has to get worse. eg. Blue Jackets were a bad team before, better now so some other decent or good club got worse. Nothing wrong with that. Most CPHL teams have been going through this good-bad cycle, few exceptions.

Agreed - I'm just saying that some GMs are fantastic traders and that's how they build their clubs. But championships have also been won by patient GMs who take a different approach. The neat thing about the game is that there is no one path to success. Different strategies work.

I have to say, in his many stints in the CPHL, MJK has absolutely amazed me with what he's able to start with, and what he's able to ice for a team in a short period of time.
And the teams that usually get worse, that Grant mentioned, seem to have me attached to them... and we don't even trade that often with Columbus.
Most championships are won by teams that trade consistently vs hoarding and waiting.
Even Grant's Minnesota team that won came on the back of his deals.
The good hoarding comes after a team has been built via trade. GM's can afford to be patient when they already ice a nice team.
I can see your point here, but its kind of chicken and egg. I say this because you need to hoard a little bit to have assets worth trading and upgrading in order to be able to trade your way up...know what I'm sayin?
I guess that isn't truly hoarding, but its kind of a hoarding until you are ready to do some serious trading, or some upgrading and trying to win.
