On a fateful day this summer Sabres GM Loooob packaged his captain Joe Sakic to Ottawa in exchange for a package including RW Ziggy Palffy. It was maybe the one thing he did right all year, despite Sakic's continued excellence in Ottawa.

Ziggy Palffy ended the year with a bang, a 3 point night against St Louis, giving him a new CPHL record 116 points, breaking the previous record of 115 set by current Sabre linemate Vaclav Prospal. Palffy's 71 assists are the most ever by a CPHL right winger, only Prospal, Nik Lidstrom (twice) and Janne Niinima have recorded more than 71 assists in a CPHL season.

His 45 goals is nothing to sneeze at either .

Definate trade that worked out for both teams.

Joe led the Sentors into the playoffs this year and was the number one center we so desperatly needed going into the season. While Pallfy would have made a very nice RW for me his spot was taken by Bondra and Alfredsson. Both who have 90 and 89 points respectivly.

So If had to do the trade over again I most certinally would have. As I am sure you would have as well.

my rationale for the deal was primarily cost cutting. I was way overbudget in the summer, having to jettison Guerin for a pick and a prospect, and I thought Palffy could be a comparable player to Sakic but a little cheaper( I believe I also moved Cullen's salary in that deal with a pick coming back my way). I knew I could move Prospal over from wing to first line Centre and I also had Rucchin and Vasicek so I was ok up the middle. I never dreamed that Palffy would have the season he did, but it's been fun.

Everyone has their reason's for pulling certain trades. Cutting costs is one of the biggest factors it seems in this league.

I know where you are coming from looooob, I don't believe you need to justify your actions, not to me anyways.

wasn't really trying to justify myself, but thanks for the vote of support...I'm pleased the way the deal went down in the end, but I had a hard time dealing Sakic, one of the best of the best
