Summary of recent Capitals moves
1) Nicholas Wallin was sent to Pittsburgh for Hal Gill . Gill has better DF and OV ratings, but is more expensive. I was able to absorb the salary difference to get the improvement. Also, Gill is signed for one more year, unlike Wallin who is a UFA.
2) Patrick Kaleta was sent to Columbus for Adam Burish. Burish has more useable CPHL ratings and is cheap at 0.75 K. Kaleta has more upside, but he will take a year or so to make a CPHL impact.
3) FATTY Morris was sent to SJ for Brendan Morrison. A deal that saves the Capitals about 1.5 Million in Cap space. While Morrison is not what he once was, we feel that his decent two-way ratings will fit in well on the third line. Morris was UFA after this season.
Essentially, the goal of these deals was to turn some of my 8 UFA's into guys signed into next year. It was also to shore up the front in and improve the DF on the back end.
More deals are expected to be made, and the Caps figure to be active in Free Agency.
Thanks to all of the GMs for the easy deals.
