There were rumours that the Blues were very interested in signing Kovalchuk. Perhaps that is true and they are looking at Boyes as a guy with a relatively big salary who would be replaced by Kovalchuk.
If the Flames or other teams are interested they are probably going to have to send the Blues somebody with an expiring contract that will give the Blues the kind of flexibility they will need to go after a big name UFA. The Blues are also in a position where they can let an asset go if they feel it will pay off long term.
Doesn't Kariya's $6M come off the books anyway at seasons end? They don't need to shed that much space to take a run at Ilya.

Atlanta wanted Oshie in the Kovalchuk deal and St.Louis said no thanks. Blues are very high on Oshie and he is not movable at this point. I heard that a few weeks back on both ESPN and TSN.
any deal would have to include one of Sarich or Kotalik, who are signed the same term but for less $$, then there would need to be incentive tacked on, be it an RFA (Boyd), signed player (Dawes), Prospect (Chucko) or a pick (not that we have many)

sometimes a team will believe a guy is still on track and is worth a look.
its not a foregone conclusion now that chucko is a career AHLer, its headed that way, but the "change of Scenery" theory still applies
Yeah! they were the goal Scorers and after seeing the Olympics !! We need Crosby. Well he's not coming here,we just need some what close to his caliper.to help out Iginal and do some Goal scoring like they did.
I know it's not really a fata since this thread is based on the news that he is actually on the market, but I've got there was some good discussion on Boyes in this thread as well.
As mentioned I would love to see Boyes here. The only question is do we have a good enough forward with an expiring contract to close the deal? If it had been a week ago Bourque and Stajan would seem like obvious choices. The best we have right now is Higgins but I really like what he brings to the team as well. If they were willing to take Moss and one of our defensive prospects I would do that in a second. Followed by a few of our excess guys getting moved for picks.
Whatever happens tomorrow will be an interesting and likely contentious day for Flames in regards to what was done and what should/could have been done.
ya, I'm pretty sure theres going to be some pretty upset people around here. Either too much was done, or not enough was done. I'm already mad and I don't even know why LOL

$6 million Kariya + $4 million Boyes is pretty close to the near $10 million that Kovalchuk is going to be looking for.
I just really don't think that they are looking to replace Boyes with a comparable salary, meaning that Langkow one to one type exchanges are unlikely.
So essentially they'd give up Boyes but would only want prospects/picks in return, I mean they don't need any good roster players right now because they aren't going to make the playoffs. They need to ditch salary and try and get better doing it. Boyes is no slouch, but what do you think they'll get for him?
I don't quite understand why people think Langkow being the basis for a deal for Boyes is such a terrible deal of St. Louis. I hate on Langks as much as anyone this season, but he still has trade value and is a valuable 2-way forward.
27 year old coming off 33 and 43 goal seasons for a 33 year old who will be lucky to hit 20 again, and makes 500k more to boot? Where do I sign?
