Went to the game tonight. Official attendance was announced at 16,300. Pre game saw Brad Morans jersey hung to the rafters, a very nice banner was raised. Bret Hart made a speech during the banner raising. Very good game. 5-2 win for the Hitmen. Some monster hits and a few fights. Neon dion was involved in a fight, and also layed out a hitmen. HUGE hit. Very good game, a big group of rebel fans sitting in section 202...

I believe as many as three Rebels fan buses made the trip, so they had a very large contingent tonight.
16,388 is a franchise regular season attendance record, and the Hitmen set a WHL record for overall season attendance, with three more games to go.
Wild game tonight. Pieper should have been tossed for that charge on Getzlaf. That was as blatant an attempt to injure as there is. Typical WHL officiating though. Good on Landolt for sticking up for his teammate.
Dupont returned the favour by destroying Vandermeer 40 seconds later, which led to a spirited fight.
Phaneuf's hit was highlight reel quality - and legal this time. Good on Ryan White for standing up for his teammate - a 16 year old taking on the 19 year old Getzlaf, even though he got a bloody nose about it.
The Hitmen forgot to show up for this one on time, but did an amazing job of coming back from the 2-0 deficit. When Calgary got going, Red Deer just couldnt keep up. Nice to see the "best team in the WHL" finally live up to the billing.

Isn't that typical of the WHL or CHL in general?
I haven't had a chance to follow the WHL for the past two years, but before that, I remember star players like Freddy Sjostrom getting cheap shotted all game.
Just saw Phaneuf's goal, and man that looked like a forwards goal. Sweet tip.

Not really. I havent seen that many blatant cheap shots. Certantly no more than one would see in the NHL.
That said, Pieper charged straight at Getzlaf with his elbow aimed right at Ryan's head. The Rebels knew full well that Getzlaf is just recovering from a concussion he earned from Phaneuf's cheap shot. That was a very blatant attempt to injure, and a cowardly act designed to eliminate Calgary's best player.

Yeah, that was a really brutal elbow. If it were the NHL, I'd be screaming suspension (if I was a Hitman fan) instead of a coincidental minor. But... I guess thats kind of the standard for a WHL game. They (WHL) need to do a better job of protecting their stars.

Wow...what an entertaining game in all facets: hits, fights, goals, everything.
This was the first time I've seen Phaneuf play live, and...wow. This guy is incredible. He was by far the Rebels' best player tonight, in on both of their goals.
And his hit in the second, I forget who the victim was...but WOW. I haven't seen a hit like that in a long, long time.
Overall, a great game, great crowd, and great win for the Hitmen.
Also, the pre-game banner-raising for Moran was outstanding.
Do they still give out coupons for a free Wendy's burger when the Hitmen score five goals in a game?

sounds like a good game. For some reason ive been thinking that Pieper used to be in my math class. Does anybody know if he had a short time spent with the drumheller dragons?

Yep. We all got vouchers for a free burger (with the purchase of a drink, of course  )

You know, as a Rebels fan at the game, that was about the only bright spot about the whole game. We lost but at least we still get a burger!
Good performace by the Hitmen last night. The Rebels were really poor. Terrible really, especially after the first period. All credit to the Hitmen though who pretty much dominated the game after that.
Dion Phaneuf gave the Flames fans in attendance a taster of what to expect. Nice goal, an assist, a tremendous open ice hit, and a fight which he won. (Although the impressive Ryan White deserves great credit for taking on Dion and holding his own too. That kid is going to be a star in this league for sure.)
Still it was an enjoyable outing, result aside. Great crowd, good to be back in the dome albeit in enemy colours this time, and seeing a big contingent of fellow Rebels fans there too. Nice ceremony for Moran as well.
This could be a short playoffs for the Rebels this season. First in quite a while when they haven't advanced to at least the conf finals. I just can't see it this year. Too many vets are uninterested, the goaltending is not what it was, and Dion can't do it all himself. Still, you never ever know of course. The playoffs are a whole new season and anyone can make a run. Personally I fancy the Hitmen to knock off the Canes if they end up playing them. Medicine Hat on the other hand........

Heh, I guess it can't get much worse, right?
Hey man, given the current labour situation, you're lucky they're even hiring at this point! So I think it can get much worse.
But seriously, watch out for any NHLPA members trying to steal your usher's job.

Just wait for the Monster Trucks (getting high off fumes), concerts (getting flashed by 13 year old girls, Ozzy - need I say more, ect), Disney on Ice (god that was painful), WWE (that was even more painful) and even figure skating (where you get to be a nice little boy and help old ladies up and down the stairs all night).
