Maybe Vanek? High price tag thanks to Lowe but maybe he has worn out his welcome with Ruff.
With a contract like that, not a snowball's chance in hell.
To be honest, I'm not even sure if there's a player on either team of reasonable ability, value, and contract length the Flames would be interested in. except maybe Stafford.
They would only be shopping him, if they think he is over achieving right now. Thats the only reason they would shop him. Any other stance and it doesnt make sense.
He's in the area for the GM meetings.
His team plays Buffalo on Friday.
He doesn't often get the opportunity to scout Eastern Conference teams.
There is nothing to do in Buffalo.

Perhaps the answer would be in the form of another question: Was there any Buffalo scouts (as I doubt Sutter's looking at Edm) at the Flames game last night?
Darryl Sutter is always taking in live hockey games when he's on the road. Whether it's the AHL team (tomorrow night the Heat play in Milwaukee) or a game involving a prospect (T.J. Brodie plays in Barrie, Ont. on Thursday). Or, regular NHL games for that matter.
Man's all business.

Not sure a trade is what the team needs right now?
i agree in a way, but you want to trade from a position of strength, so its the right time to do it if there is a player the sabres want who is overachieving. But the Flames are playing well and I don't know who the Sabres are shopping around that the Flames would want. I guess it could be someone from the Sabres
or Sutter is just getting a look on a quiet night on a roadtrip.

On the Buffalo board they mention that Adam Mair was placed on waivers and cleared potentially to make room for a trade (their speculation not mine). They have approximately 2.5 million in cap room.
I have heard the Sabres are interested in Jokinen.
Roy and Stafford for Jokinen, Giordano and a top prospect? (wishful thinking)
First, I highly doubt that Buffalo is interested in Jokinen. Second, why would a team give up two top six forwards for a pending UFA, a third pair defenseman, and a top prospect?

Or as was said .Someone with The Sabres.Flames have never been know to claim someone ''direcly'' From The Oilers .But I do agree .why was Sutter there tonight
Sutter being there makes sense as he is likely travelling with the team.
20 scouts in the building is what has me interested. I bet it's the Oilers that are the sellers and I bet that it is Mr. Penner and Mr. Horcoff who are on the table. Penner because people aren't sold on him and Horcoff because of that salary.....

Are the Sabres making any moves or just allowing this team to take its course?
The Sabres take a ton of heat for being passive, but they deserve more credit for building from within and allowing their youngsters a shot. Too often in the new NHL teams don't allow their talent a shot at the team. They develop them, then allow them to succeed elsewhere. I find it interesting that two teams that have had the longest GM/Coach tandem are Buffalo and Nashville. And those two teams have done the least as far as signings but have also set up a farm system with players who know that if they succeed then they will wear the mother team's jersey. The Sabres are a team that really also cares about character players. Guys like Jokinen have been on there radar, but the Sabres won't bring in a guy that they feel will be a cancer.
Speaking of the Flames, many feel that the Jokinen/Sutter Experiment may be failing. Could Jokinen be available again this deadline?
As you well know, never say never. As of now, I don't see Jokinen going anywhere. The Flames are a year long project that is all about tuning up for the playoffs. Too many early exits for the Flames really has the whole organization thinking in terms of playoffs.
