Sportscaster Mike Toth has been let go by Rogers Sportsnet. The Saskatchewan native - who earlier had worked at TSN - has been a featured host for Sportsnet's Connected newscasts, but lately had been spending more time doing radio with The FAN 590 (also owned by Rogers) and posting to Sportsnet.ca. A network spokesman confirmed Tuesday that the veteran sportscaster had not had his contract renewed this week but declined further comment.
I wonder why he even left TSN anyway. Didn't he marry a SN producer? You'd think he has some pull in the company
I remember when Toth used to call the SN games.. his sayings were just so out there.. "And he got pickled like a penguin at the circus!"

I used to love Mike Toth but he's started to lose his appeal to me over the past few years. I think the writing was on the wall for him after he was suspended for questioning the big bosses. I can't remember the circumstances but I think he disagreed about the "Friday Night Fightfest" segment and had a bit of a meltdown about it.
Being from Saskatchewan I did like when he would throw in a remark about a small town that I knew.

I heard that was an unreal show. My cousin lived in Calgary during those days and told me they used to watch it all the time because you never knew what they were going to say. Who was his co-host?

I remember this one bit where there was some kind of jazz music playing and him and whoever his co-anchor was, played "air string" instruments and I laughed my head off.........

It was a team, really. It would be two of him or Lonsboruough (sp?), Manzie, Pollock, and even Eddie Whalen sometimes. I would kill to watch old episodes of this again.

Mike Lownsbrough was the other funny Mike. He got fired for a prank on a coworker gone bad.
Grant Pollock, Ed Whalen, and Ron Manz also hosted.
That was an awesome show back in the day. I was a little too young to fully appreciate it, but they used to do all sorts of wacky stuff, like do a show in a hot tub, or this one segment I remember when they were going around in a limo or something. Man, classic. And I always though Lawnsborough was hilarious.
Agreed...what the heck is up with "he-he-sc-sco-coooores" like he's confused by every goal a hockey player makes, pfft.
And he thinks he's O'toole and Onrait funny but he's not. And he always does the stupid "Canucks wearing there puke coloured jerseys with the aborted fetus trim" or the "wearing player x's old number xx".
