Default Shaw pvr expander

So, as there were a few hd pvr's in the 4sale section, I went to Shaw to take a look at brand new prices, and what do I see? PVR expanders. Finally, they are providing expansion. Right now they are showing a Pace model for a HDPVR terminal that comes with a 1 TB hdd. But they also show 1 TB expanders for $200.
There is a coming soon section that shows they will have them for the Motorola's, (6416, is what i need).
This is great news, because 160 does not cut it. I end up deleting a lot of shtuff, I haven't even seen yet, to make room for other shows, I may never see. Expansion will ease my situation immeasurably.
I've tried recording to a laptop from the 6416, and it is real hit or miss. Sometimes works, most times not. I finally gave up on that.

Great news! Here is the link

http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsSer...VRExpander.htm

I'm always worried the internal hd in the pvr will fry. it's always so hot and mine is making sounds now.

Do you think it would work if i just removed the internal hd and hook up the external to it instead?

It looks like a Western Digital mybook.

That is swank. $200 for a terabyte isn't that bad. Isn't that great, but it certainly isn't bad.

Does that mean the eSata port on the 6416's is active now?

Are we forced to buy that specific model from shaw?

What I want to know... is when Shaw will update their HD boxes with something better than the outdated Motorola box. Was supposed to be a year ago now. GET ON IT SHAW.

The eSATA port is active now I beleive, but is not usable atm. Once they actually enable it, you'll be able to use any External HDD that has eSATA.

My buddy just got a new one. Even the shaw guy who set it up was apparently surprised. They are much smaller and cooler looking.

I have just bought the Pace dc758d. I am trying to activate the PVR function with an external Hard Drive, i just dont want to buy the Shaw PVR expander. The PVR expander is, afterall only a hard drive anyway right?

All you guys do me a favour, bump this thread when you actually connect an external HD to a shaw pvr (regardless of model).

I'm sick of having to delete stuff on the PVR, but I'm not spending $200 on a shaw sanctioned external HD when Dell seems to sell terabyte external drives for $100 now.

My friend just did it last nite! He has the motorola pvr.

Went to bestbuy and bought a pvr expander. Plugged it in and called shaw to flip a switch and now it works. Has about 15 hours of hd in his pvr but it only shows 2% full.
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...23&catid=21978

Doesn't look like it's released until the 10th on the website but he got one last nite.
I'm going to goto costco tonite and try just the regular Mybook from wd and see if it works. I think that is only around $150.

I bought one too with a motorolla HDPVR. Went from 85% full to 0% full. You actually should be able to hook up any external HDD. One benefit of getting it from Shaw is their ridiculous warranty they provide for their hardware.

So, does Shaw need to be contacted to flip a switch? to enable the Motorola?

I'd like to know the same thing.

I'll be trying with just a generic external HD this weekend and will let you all know how it works out.

Thanks for all the info so far guys.

Yads, dumb question but how did it ask you to format it?

Like was there a display on your TV prompting you to do this?

Everyone go here:

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=112018

There's a lot of expertise in that thread (starting around page 13 or 14) and it should help everyone out here.

I'm waiting on an answer from someone there, but apparently this:

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product...528AS(ME).aspx

Will work and save you a bunch of cash. Also the HD in it has a faster RPM speed and bigger cache than the shaw expander.
