They're really getting away from the book it seems. Not that I am complaining, especially given how hot Melisandre is.
I'm not sure about the changes, by far the biggest they've made in the series yet. I'm also really not sure what to make of that ending, though I'm definitely interested to see how it plays out.
The amount of amazing characters in this series is outstanding.
We haven't even seen Renly yet in these two episodes.
Ten just isn't enough, we need 13 episode seasons. Ahhh what a show.
I think the first two have been great and that's with no renly, very little dany, no starks beside arya tonight, no joffrey/jaime either, but it was so good I didn't notice it until afterwards
I still think they need to establish Stannis more for people who haven't read the books, I am guessing one of the next two episodes is heavy on his story

1. Melisandre and Stannis love scene is new. Don't like it as Stannis is supposed to be extremely honourable.
2. The Other taking the crying baby by Craster's house is new. Along with Craster clubbing Snow
3. The prostitute crying for her friends baby is new
4. Rakharo returning without his head is new. Weird.
I guess they are trying to make things a little more exciting
5. Stannis' daughter and her fool no longer exist. Considering one is hideously deformed and the other a loud annoying idiot, both of which contribute nothing to the story, this is probably a good call.

Game of Thrones has unique problem going for it: It has too many good charatcers. We're 20% through this season and Jaime, Daenerys and Robb have basically had 15 minutes total screen time. I'm surprised they didn't go to a 12 episode season especially with all the new additions and increased roles for some of the first season characters. The first two episodes have of season two have been great though.

Season one had a lot of amazing characters too...then they killed most of them!
Honestly, when I first started watching and with the title Game of Thrones I thought for sure it was about Ned Stark, Robert Baratheon, Viserys Targaryen and Khal Drogo. I thought well, these will be the pillars of the show. They were all fleshed out characters and all the actors were great in the role.
Then Robert dies... then Vieserys dies... then Drogo... then Ned.. then god damn Eddard Stark gets his god damn head chopped off. ... I'm over it.
Even some of the smaller characters seemed really cool during season one were killed. Ed Stark's personal guard Jory Cassel) was killed by Jamie Lannister with a knife through the eye.

Bronn is a fun character to watch as well, I thought his arc would be over last season and would have died by now. Watching him be so closely trusted by the Imp is interesting.
Not knowing anything about the books going in they really seemed to have nailed Stannis Baratheon. The description Renly gives of him in season one (inspires no love) is something they've nailed. Stannis is so cold and.. factual.
No real point to this odd rant, I just love this show.

I think we'll be seeing a lot more diversions from the books because there are way too many story arcs to keep up with on a weekly series. I bet we'll be seeing a lot of events either removed or extremely condensed.
Sort of off topic, but is anyone going to buy the Game of Thrones game out next month?
It actually looks pretty interesting, and follows a different story than either season, but still features Mormont and Varys in their own stories.
I was sort of hoping Sean Bean/Eddard Stark would be in it somehow, but I am still picking it up. If you are going to buy it, be sure to pre-order it at EB as then you get this sweet art book for free:
Sunday’s hour delivered 3.8 million viewers — last week’s premiere had 3.9 million viewers. Last week’s premiere was a series-high number, and considering that TV series viewership typically drops post-premiere, retaining nearly all of the the debut audience is a strong accomplishment. The premiere’s total viewership has crept up to 7.5 million viewers.
Hopefully more brother-sister horse fondling next week.
