Quote:
“We don’t,’’ Calgary Flames defenceman Cory Sarich said with exaggerated politeness, “like each other much.’’
Quote:
“We want the same thing,” Sarich said.

When the Flames and Vancouver Canucks meet to open their 2009-10 NHL campaigns, it’s about bragging rights, the spoils, the Northwest Division title and the automatic third seed in the Western Conference and home-ice advantage to open the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Quote:
By consensus, these are once again the two most complete teams housed in the Northwest, so might as well dive into the deep end of the pool right away and see who floats.

“Yeah, why not?’’ Sarich said. “They chased us and chased us and chased us all last year. And then caught up at the end. That didn’t sit well in here.’’
I am so pumped for this game tomorrow!

GO FLAMES GO!

I'm glad it's at home this time. I'll be super pissed at another 6-0 drubbing, that's for sure. I have a feeling the Flames will hand it to the Canucks, though.

As much as I hate to admit, there is a pretty good chance of the flames losing this game.

A team learning a completely new system and trying to break old habits will simply have a tough time against a team that has their system understood.

I don't think 6-0 will be happening tomorrow night.

4-1 maybe.

Nice to see even the Canucks fans aren't dumb enough to think they'll win. I agree with dhb, the Flames will win 4-1.

I'd love to see the Flames win, but they are chronic underperformers in any season opener.

As much as I've could watch online of Flames against Canucks, I think preseason has no impact of whats going to happen in regular season but I see Flames winning because of 2 reasons, revenge, and redemption.

Automatic third seed? That is totally unfair.

22-7 <--- that is the combined score in favour of the opposition on Flames season openers.

5 straight losses since 03-04, and 3 of them were by 3 goals or more.

"They embarrassed us last year (in) the first game," recalled Conroy, who played on a line with Curtis Glencross and Dustin Boyd at practice on Wednesday. "They got some good breaks too, but they worked hard to do what they had to do."
Quote:
"We're going to be in a dogfight," Conroy said. "They have a real good goalie. We've got to find a way to solve him early and get on their D and stay out of the penalty box. It's a great opportunity to get off to a quick start and just keep going forward and hopefully never look back."
Quote:
If Wednesday's practice is any indication, Calgary's top line will feature Olli Jokinen at centre flanked on the wings by David Moss and captain Jarome Iginla.

"Every day we kind of feel a little more comfortable with each other and we're looking forward to starting it up," said Iginla. "Our team is still getting better.

"We have added some huge pieces. We've got good team speed. We have one the best goalies in the world, we have one of the top defensive corps in the world. That should be a huge strength of our team."
Quote:
"Usually after the first game, you can put the last season behind," Jokinen said. "We feel good about ourselves and we believe we're a top team in this league and we've been taking some huge strides ahead in this training camp and we're going in the right direction. We've just got to keep getting better."

Why bother with these meaningless regular season games. The Canucks have nothing left to prove having already won the preseason. Will there be a ceremony before the game to recognize the Canuck's vast achievements?

The Canucks were playing pretty scrambly in their last few pre-season games and had quite a few SO wins. The Flames might just break the opening night curse this year.
