Deal works both ways imo. Ducks get a good return for what would have been their backup goalie and the Devils get a guy who will make 500 K for the next 3 years and solved their goalie position.

Well anytime you can get a goalie who will be good enough to start 35 games and win half of them who makes 500k with upside to go further it's hard to criticize that deal. In terms of money players there probably isn't a better value in the league than what I'd project Steve Mason to be.

Simply put, we already have Nabokov. We wanted to keep MAson to utilize his good contract down the road but stastny himself is young so really we lose out on 2 years of Masons sick contract since the Devils evened up the cap. Stastny will bring some firepower up front which is much needed after the loss of Tanguay.

It sucks to lose mason but we feel the return made it worth it. We also feel that this is a unique trade in the sense that it fits the needs of both teams and seems to be great for both squads on the surface.
