So did anyone else go to the game last night. There was quite a bit of complaining on the Fan960 this morning about the security, one guy who has been season ticket holder since 90 saying he was not going to renew... and just some general bitching about no tailgates anymore and everyone being searched...
I was not able to go last night, but I will miss being able to hit the parking lot and have a beer with a friend and if I am standing in line waiting to be strip searched at the beginning of games rather than in my seats watching I will be very upset and really I like to have time to buy a beer and maybe a burger before it starts... Often I use a bus from a pub to get there and back, so showing up early is not really in my control... besides I think it sounds like they are going to far.
My opinion is just focus security on Rider fan and 90% of drunken a$$ behavior will be nullified...
Anyone have a experience with security last night? thoughts?
I wrote in another thread about some bad customer service last night, which is pretty typical I find at the games. There were some people who snuck in a lot of alcohol sitting behind me they were rowdy and throwing f bombs around loudly with kids all around security didn't do anything.
Everytime we go to a stamps game my mom gets patted down while many 20 somethings stroll right on past ... I guess she gives off that 65 year old drunkard vibe.

An older guy was tossed for bringing in alcohol behind us last night - actually, right at the very top of the stadium. The guy that had him tossed was a complete dick about it though, bragging and saying "I told you guys I was going to catch you!!".
As for more "security" - well, there are more Emo teenagers with yellow t-shirts. Losers.

Calgary football fans forced to live with beefed up security

Keeping in mind that bag searches will slow the lines, Ackles has made sure to offer an express line for fans who come without bag in hand.

Sean Bradley says the increased police presence is hurting the atmosphere and threatening to kill such football institutions as the tailgate party, something he considers an integral part of the fan experience.
"Look, I have two young boys and I don't want them to see inebriated people fighting," says the Calgary realtor who's been coming to Stamps games for the better part of four decades. "But the police walking up and down, it isn't conducive to the atmosphere. And I really don't think there is harm in anyone having a sausage and a beer before the game."
Bradley says he wishes Stampeder brass were more creative in finding ways to curtail the bad behaviour of the troublemakers. When he was at a San Francisco 49ers game last year, he says a website address was flashed on the Jumbotron.
"If you had unruly fans in your section, you could e-mail the address to report them," he says. "I did, and they came right away and escorted out this drunk, belligerent woman."

Or she has a great rack.

Yeah, they flashed up a phone number you could call for some "Security Hotline". Yeah, I'll get right on making a loud phone call complaining about the idiots around me and how I want them tossed - that won't cause any problems.
Maybe we should send Tony Tighe over and he can educate them on how technology works.

@valo403 - ya they have always searched I just heard it was over the top last night, normally they would pick and choose people to search and last night it was everyone and purses...
@the Ditch - but doesn't sound like they were more successful at getting people sneaking booze in. Not that *you should* have to... but I believe there is a family zone, I think its the co-op tickets.. maybe some one else can confirm - but no booze is allowed in that section, even the stuff sold within the stadium... just a very kid friendly zone...

It was funny watching the news- people talking about how we have one of the few CFL stadiums where you can tailgate; and how we should appreciate the dry tailgate as others don't have anything.
Yeah, right. Sorry, but while tailgating doesn't mean you have to get blasted, it shouldn't be a dry event either.
Funny thing, my buddy who took over my season tickets told me that last season we finally got called from the waiting list for a parking pass. I put my name down years ago not because I wanted to pay $150 to have to wait an hour to leave the game, but so that we could tailgate. I would be choked if I had paid that and found out that we could no longer have a proper tailgate.

No they weren't that successful in fact the group was talking about the best ways to sneak in booze and get pass the bag check line. I'm fine with drinking and gettting rowdy but you should try to be respectful if there are a lot of kids sitting around you, for instance, getting in the way of kids for the footballs after a touchdown when you're piss drunk and mid 20's is dumb.

If nothing else maybe have a phone number that you can text- at least you could do that without attracting a lot of attention.

ya being able to text or email the complaint and a seat number or section is a good idea... people text constantly anyway so not like that will be a noticeable activity...
Is this a new policy or patting down everyone that goes to games?
Any reason given for the change compared to last year.
I will say, that compared to Eskimos games, you do notice the increased alcoholism present at Stamps games comparatively.

^ They didn't pat everyone down (from what I saw)...just upped the bag checks, and did so before you were let into the stadium so they could turn you back if you had alcohol on you.

Did any of you bother READING the article. They said you could email the address. The texting is another good idea. To be honest they could be much more creative, and I think the texting/email idea is fantastic. I have often complained about the lack of security of stamps games, and the fact there are so many fights, but there are better ways to deal with the situation then punshing those who are enjoying the game responsibly.

I was there last night and got my warning about open alcohol at my tailgate from the 'Waffen CPS.' Then inside the game I was treated like a second class citizen by the Gestapo Security guards. This is a bloody joke.
Bottom Line is CFL Football isn't big league enough to screw over the fan experience like this and still sell out games (See Vipers = Joke Thread). The second they lose 5,000 season ticket holders over this is the second they lose me as well (And I've been a season ticket holder since 1995) because I will be able to pick and choose the games I want to go to and still get decent seats. The tailgating complete with beer was what kept me going to those fall games agianst Hamilton instead of staying at home and watching the NFL on Sunday ticket. Big mistake for the franchise. And also a big F U to Rider fans, you're behavior the past few years is the main driver behind these changes. I wish you nothing but failure forevermore in 'Next Year' country.

Yeah the guy from the article was talking about the 49ers. There are quite a few places that do this in the NFL and MLB I think it's a great idea.
Yeah its a great idea. US stadiums have been doing it for awhile. Nice to see that its catching on here. Hopefully the Saddledome institutes something similar.
