"American Gangster" is running on one of them movie channels in the 50's. It's a pretty good flick that I never had any interest in but stumbled across and liked it.
Well, we ended up watching The Wrestler tonight. I'm not too sure what all the hype was surrounding this one. I guess it was ok, but more of a Sunday afternoon kind of movie for me, as opposed to Saturday night. Very slow. I waited for it to get better the whole show. I give it a 6/10.
Australia -- meh. There's a natural break half way through the movie where I thought it was over, and had it been, it would have been a mildly recommended. Unfortunately, there's an extra hour + that was (IMO) unnecessary and unwelcome.
Seven Pounds -- I enjoyed it. Good emotional performances. I saw the ending coming, but still liked it.
Benjamin Button -- Huge Fincher fan, but this one left me cold. So little joy in the film. No desire to see it again.
For those searching for a good movie, but have seen the latest fare -- dig up Swimming With Sharks.
Dirty Work(with Norm McDonald and Chris Farley)...................love that movie.
Also, I am a massive Denzel Wahington fan. He does not make bad movies. Therefore I will recommend the following
-Man on Fire (this movie is simply awesome)
-American Gangster
-Training Day
-Out of Time
I'm sure there are some more that I have not seen. Let me know if anyone has seen a Denzel movie that I may have missed.

He's acted in 51 movies (5 of those 51 are in production or haven't been released yet).
I watched Frost/Nixon the other day and really enjoyed. The acting was spot on.
that said I have a couple go-to movies depending on my mood
Something to do while folding laundry - Wedding Crashers, Role Models, or really any bromance
Action - The Bourne Trilogy (this movies DO NOT get old. So good) Iron Man, The Dark Knight
Favorite movie time - Forrest Gump, Blood Diamond, Gladiator
Childish and fun - Toy Story, The Incredibles
Would also recommend pretty much any movie with Robert Downey Jr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang or Charlie Bartlett are more recent ones that are very good
These are just off the top of my head. I would also recommend getting into a good tv show that you can either follow right now or rent the whole series. Something like Entourage, or for a little more light-hearted How I Met Your Mother are my recommendations.

He was great in Philadelphia too. I didn't really enjoy John Q though. Seemed just a little too emotionally manipulative.

That's too bad. I thought it was a very poignant look at a flawed man who struggled with the fact that he had a far better existence in a fictional world than in reality and the fact that his age was beginning to take that away. Rourke was awesome in it.
I saw a small English film last year called 'Boy A'. Very interesting... definitely made me think about the criminal justice system and society.
Also watched 'Valkyrie' a couple weeks ago on the plane. It was better than I thought. Definitely entertaining.

Too much testosterone in some mentioned. So for women of a certain age:
Sense and Sensibility
Notting Hill
Love Actually
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
An Affair to Remember
Not many current films appeal but I do want to see Religulous.
Buying movies for 5 yuan means I can watch many. I have watched these in the last week:
Taxi Driver: Excellent flick. Really enjoyed it. Good acting and thoughtful.
Innocence (the sequel to Ghost in the Shell): cool philosophical Japanimation flick. Fantastic art and visuals in it. Dialogue is a bit too narrative at times, but it's worth it.
Chung Kuo (or 'China' I guess): The first documentary made by a foreigner in China. Directed by Michaelangelo Antonioni. Cool documentary. Good for both it's views inside China in the early seventies as well as for the directorial style. Very raw.
Blind Shaft: Probably won't find this in Canada, but it's a saddening flick about miners manipulating the pay out system for killed family members in the mines around Shanxi province. Worth watching for it's authenticity and brutality.
Happy Feet: Kick ass cartoon about a dancing penguin. Made me feel good.
The Passion of the Mao: Kind of hokey American documentary about Chairman Mao aimed at being comedic. If you can get past the hokey American humour in it you'll find an actually interesting account of Mao's life, which presents him in a positive light.
No Intelligence Allowed: Worth watching as a novelty.
Summer Heights High: Not so much a single movie as a humorous mini-series about life in an Australian public school. It has it's strong and weak points, but overall is pretty funny and has some excellent one liners and painfully true comedic scenes.
Man on the Moon: Just an awesome movie. Everyone should see it.
X-men Origins: My copy is obviously an very early version of the film, where the computer animations haven't been completed and animated scenes contain models of the characters that look more like they should be a robaxacet commercial than an x-men flick, but I still enjoyed it. It's also really cool to see how the animations are built up. There are some scenes where notes like "claws grow here" are written on the screen with circles and arrows.

Over the Top - A absent fathers attempt to win his son's love, plus trucks, arm wrestling and motor oil.
Cobra - "You're the disease, and I'm the cure".
Airborne - Teenage surfer sent to Cleveland. He's different and he must prove himself in a race on rollerblades... on the Devil's Backbone.
Bloodsport - Van Damme deserved an Oscar for his performance as a blind man.
Runaway - Lethal robotic spiders, what else do you need? Prayer of the Rollerboys - US financial system has crashed and there's a gang of teenagers wearing lab coats on rollerblades thats terrorizing the city!
yeah, that movie was AWESOME! i actually got an trench coat and rollerbladed around because of this
and van damme was only temporarily blinded...no oscar
I watched "Monster" last night. I was stunned by how ugly Charlize Theron made herself look! Like a completely different person! No wonder she got an Oscar.
The only negative thing about the movie are the lesbian love scenes between skanky-Charlize and a pudgy-Christina Ricci... yuk!
