with the new look our custom stats haven't made it to the fore front yet, but here is the old trusty projected standings link that most of you are used to.
Calgary projecting to 99 points, but behind Vancouver.
if you called it right now a Boston/San Jose final.
wonder how the people in Boston feel now about the Thornton trade.
makes that deal look pretty good on both fronts.
IIRC, that deal was a case of the Boston faithful calling for the heads of the Bruins management.

A bit too early for me, I think too many of the top teams have had hot streaks but no cold streaks while the middling teams have had cold streaks without hot streaks.
Whether it makes a difference or not at the end of the day is yet to be seen of course. How cold can a SanJose type team get?
But I feel a Calgary hot streak coming so I am biased towards holding off until maybe mid-January or so....

nice to see those stats, but they're just there for reference. the season is unpredictable as always. if dallas can finally get it back together, they will be in the bottom 4 of the playoffs. i don't expect minny and nashville holding on to their spots. i think that san jose will not get 139 pts, but they will win the presidents trophy this year by only a few points.
It's wierd that it projects that only 87 points gets you into the playoffs in the West...! When was the last time that actually happened?
bigger split this year between say the top six and the bottom six in the west. Instead of having eight teams all pacing towards thte 92 point range like last year there seems to exist a divide.

Location: Here, lookin for Flames news. Sure beats sifting through their garbage.
Exp:
How does Van. have more projected points than the Flames when our records (including GP) are identical? Do they play the Oilers one more time than us this year?

Just my 2 cents. Now worth MORE than an American opinion!
When Kariya and Mcdonald and Brewer and maybe Pietrangelo come back for St. Louis they should pick it up. No Erik Johnson is a big blow as well. Dallas will also be higher and definitely could take a playoff spot. Missing Morrow, Zubov, Lehtinen, Ott, Lundqvist also has hindered them. They are turning around though. Leaving LA, Columbus and EDMONTON to battle it out for the bottom 3 spots. Oilers are trying to grab Tavares to add to their adundance of amazingly talented youth.

Not really, imagine how much better they would be with Thornton. No offense to Kobasew, Ference, and Sturm, but Boston is not better because of that trade. I know someone is going to bring up cap space, but those 3 guys I just mentioned have a combined cap hit bigger than Thornton has right now. It was a terrible trade then, and it's still a terrible trade now.
So by that, that would mean the Flames play Chicago?
Not bad, a lot of their offence would go away, lots of young players to get wide eyed with the playoffs and then there's Campbell's performance in the playoffs!

Buffalo made it with 85 , the same season, in the East.
The Coilers made it with 78, in 98/99
I remember in '96 when Winnipeg also got in with 78. The Flames finished with 79, which somehow was good enough for 6th in the Western Conference.
The OT/SO loss point has really inflated season end point totals for teams. On those projected standings, it shows 10 teams right now on pace for 100+ pts(6 in the East!). Before the OT loss point came in, you'd be lucky to see more than 3-4 teams end up with 100pts.

Bingo's methodology calculates the final total by looking at home and away winning percentage. We've played 15 home games, Vancouver has played 12, so their final total is higher as a result.
I think seeding will be very important to us this year. I don't want to be the first team playing San Jose or Detroit this year.
A first round match-up against either Vancouver or Chicago would be decent. Neither would be a cake walk, but I like our chances. Of course, winning the division and playing a 6-8 seed team would be choice #1.

In the San Jose/Boston trade...Calgary got screwed.
SJ got Thornton
Boston ended up with Ference, Kobasew
Calgary got Wayne Primeau and 20 games of B Stuart....
