Because I find the whole thing rather ridiculous, I thought I would include Don Cherrys comments about why the Sens are free falling...Yeah, it's the clothing.
If you're going to base your opinions on people based upon what they're wearing, I'd rather look like I'm going to steal your hubcaps then look like I'm pimping out teenage boys.
God lord Don, at least they all have a sense of style, something you are lacking.
Go Lundqvist and Bryzgalov. And Go Blackhawks Go!

You've set the new standard, I think. And you've gone back up a notch in my book (we'll forget the whole Bernier thing, fow now).
YES!!!
*High Five*
As for the Don Cherry comments, I thought they were hilarious. Honestly, to take the holiest of players in Mike Fisher, and call him a thug cause he's wearing a dark coat and a toque in the middle of winter, is just ridiculous.

Yeah, I am hoping Fisher does something the next time they are on HNIC. Maybe walk into the arena in a tux and top hat, or perhaps wearing his normal attire complete with Don Cherrys hubcaps under his arm... lots of possibilities to mock Don with this...
Fun fact: Dany Heatley is one point away from his 500th career point. Would love to see it happen tonight.
Cherry's comments weren't ridiculous at all and show the difference between some teams that are having success in part by working together and buying into the coaches system versus two teams that are struggling, not working as a team and working with the coaches system.
He wasn't saying that if they wore suits they would start winning. He was pointing out that the successful teams looked and acted the part.
I actually took it as more of a comment on the guys in suits than an insult to the Sens and Lightning.
If taken so literally, and from the view of Sens fans that always think that CBC is against them, I guess I could see getting upset, but if you listen to what he actually said he makes sense in regards to how teams acting off the ice showing the type of team they are on the ice.
Personally I hope the Sens continue to not care on and off the ice.

I guess that's what he said if you look at it from the perspective of someone who hates the Sens and can't recognize that CBC never gives the Sens or its fanbase a fair shake.
Cherry calling Mike Fisher 'a thug who will steal your hubcaps' is ridiculous and quite frankly, insulting. Fisher is one of the Sens' hardest working players, he does all kinds of charity work in the community and doesn't really deserve having someone call him a 'bad example for kids.' Furthermore, wearing a toque and trench coat in the winter doesn't indicate someone not taking themselves, their coach or their sport seriously. It's a bit of a reach on his part, IMO.
If he was trying to make the point you described above, he could have just said that, and not insulted a player like Fisher, who is not a thug in any possible way.
He said almost the same thing last year about Phaneuf and Iginla when they were walking into the Dome without wearing ties, I believe it was against Dallas. And I think we can agree that Jarome Iginla is not a thug!

Whoa, what? The CBC never gives the Sens a fair chance? Hows that? When they're in the playoffs they're going to win the cup every year and the janitorial staff is cleaning CBC's slobber off the floor around the clock.
As for the clothes comments, theres some merit there, but I'd stop at 'some.' I think he may have blown its effects a little out of proportion, but a case could certainly be made. I find that odd coming from a Hartsburg run team though.
Anyways, nice job on the OOT thread. Looks snazzy.
I really need the Flyers to kick some ass and I hope Kovalchuk lights the Sens up like a Christmas tree.

We are going to have to disagree cause I don't see that at all. CBC doesn't slobber over them at all. CBC slobbers over Toronto, and occasionally, Montreal.
As for the comments, ignoring the pointless thugs stuff, I don't see the merit in them. They are dressing the same way they've always dressed, they are dressing the same way a lot of players on teams around the league dress, teams of varying success. I just don't see his "dress for success" point. What does it matter what they wear into the arena? I don't see how it affects their on ice performance in any way.
And thanks for the compliment. You should add your comments to the thread for each game, except the Sens game, cause I don't need to hear it.

I have heard this BS about the CBC and the Sens on this board a lot this year but (and maybe it is just on my TV) the Sens seem to be on CBC all the time this year. Now a lot of those games are in the afternoon but they seem to be a lot more Sens games on this year than others.

I said I thought the comments on the Sens and Lightning guys were less reasonable and I do agree the "thugs" comment was probably a little strong but that is Cherry's style. I don't think he meant to insult Fisher or the others personally. And think that you are probably taking harsher than it was based on the team and especially the player.
His point on how the Capitals came in looking like a team and organized does have merit in my view.

We always do when it comes to the sens.

Yeah, but "Dress for Success" is a common mantra across many types of industries, and sports has generally been one of them. The suit is almost like a second uniform.
Look what happens when Avery shows up wearing shorts. It was deemed unacceptable. Its a form of authority that coaches and teams enforce to provide a professional atmosphere. Emery used to dress like a drug pushing pimp, and I think that demonstrated the fact that he was uncontrollable on or off the ice.
The other thing is, it keeps everyone on a similar level, from the superstars to the grinders to the rookies. Unity. One Team.
Anyways, even the points that I've made I'll admit are a stretch, but at the end of the day, the dress code is a really basic thing, and it seems that they cant even handle that. Practice must be a great time.

With all due respect EG, I think you're over-reacting and being a bit oversensitive to a typical Cherry off the cuff remark.
I just see it as him in a typical Cherry way going wayyyyyyyy over the top to make an valid observation.
The team at the top appears to have a more business like approach to their games. The bottom feeders ... a more casual approach.
Does this reflect the discipline and structure within the dressing room ... who knows?
