So I spent the night at emergency after my 5 year old son had a seizure, the third time this has happened to him in his short life. Last time it happened he started turning blue.
NOTHING can prepare you for the sheer terror that you feel when you see one of your kids go through something like this.
Thankfully he seems to have come through it again with no ill effects. It's truly scary though. My other kids were besides themselves at emergency worried about their brother.
The worst I've had to deal with was a 3 stitch cut on a finger, though my son did lose the mobility of that finger above the last knuckle. That's nothing though.
My kids were abducted by a stranger as well, but thankfully they were safe before I knew about it. I can't imagine what it would've been like had we had to wait not knowing they were ok.
Things like this do really make the other stuff seem so unimportant. I know I said I wanted to sell my kids in Habby's little girl's thread, but that was just a meatphor for 'teenagers can be a big pain in the ass'. I love them more than anything in the world.

Did you tell him to cut that nonsense out or you'll give him something to seize about?
As a non-parent and a child-cynic, the best I can say is punish them.
I'm glad to hear that the little guy is ok though. But only for your sake. Let him know that he has to smarten up because theres more where he came from.
My son got a stomach infection when he was about 2, he was throwing up all the time and diarrhea and couldn't eat or drink anything.. he even started pooping the white crystals which meant he was basically starving.
The doctors we went to in Strathmore were morons, they prescribed some gravol which was supposed to reduce the nausea, but that just made the diarrhea worse.
Eventually we took him to the children's hospital and they said that we were good to bring him in on time, they had to put him on IV and pretty strong meds. He was up and around in a day or so and home in another, but it was pretty scary.
What made it worse is some friends of ours were telling us about someone at their work who's kid had basically the same thing as ours (can't remember the name now), but they thought it was just a bad flu... they didn't take their kid into emergency though and eventually when he was totally unresponsive they called an ambulance but he ended up dying, they waited too long.
We were in and out of the hospital 3-4 times in the span of a week and a half (it's a bit of a blur), and I can't say enough good about the children's hospital, and I can't say enough bad about the doctors out in Strathmore, if I'd followed their instructions it may have killed my kid.

Glad to hear he's OK. I'm relatively new at this, my daughter is only 9 months old. But last night she got the flu... threw up every hour for 5 hours, not fun.
So glad to hear he's ok... Having something wrong with your kids and not being able to do anything is the most helpless feeling in the world.
We just about lost our 18 month old to a nut allergy... Words can't describe the feeling of seeing his limp little body, blue and lifeless in a paramedics arms...
I have a 5 year old as well and don't even want to think about going through what you did.
We haven't had to deal with anything as scary as a seizure or what happened to photon's kid, but we've had our worries.
When my oldest kid was just 4 months old he got hit wit a nasty cold or flu. I can't remember what, but it was nasty. He was so lethargic, his eyes were so glossed over and he just wasn't happy. It was like the life was being sucked out of him. I was so happy that it was the first Christmas in a few years that I wasn't sick and then I wake up to my son being really sick. I wanted to be sick again, not him.
The second time was when my son was playing with a bunch of kids and they all fell down in a pile and they all got up and started running again but my kid had blood gushing out of his forehead. He was a couple of months away from his second birthday and had to get 4 stitches in his forehead. The hardest part was the fear in his eyes as we had to hold him down while the doctor stitched him up.
Seeing your kid(s) sick or hurt is the hardest thing for a parent to do. You want to make it better right fricken' now but you can't do a darn thing about it. Hopelessness is a strong feeling when your loved ones are the ones you want to protect.

Hope your boy is feeling better. I had a scary incident with my 4 year old daughter just recently. She choked on a fruit roll-up. It played out for it seemed eternity. I tried all the standard ways of clearing the passage and nothing was working. I was pretty much to the point of calling 911. I don't know what made me think of it but I put my mouth over hers and just gave it one sharp hard sucking action and it dislodged the food back into her mouth. Damn scary.

I'm in the same boat. My son is 6 months old. He got "baby measles" which meant he woke up with a fever and red spots all over (it's not serious, though - thank God). It was scary because as a new parent this is all fresh for me. But I can't imagine what you went through, Jagger - that's pretty scary stuff. Glad he's OK.

Glad to hear your son's OK. My step-cousin had a seizure once back when I was still in elementary. Scary thing to see in person.
My 3 year old daughter got 4 stitches just above her eyebrow, when she lost her balance getting off the piano bench and bonked her head against the sharp edge of the railing. We went to hospital, waited for 5hrs before everything was done. Worse part is when she was on the table getting stitched up, she looked up to my wife and I and kept saying she was scared. That hurt me inside even more.

I now have two kids so I get double the worry now.....great. Our boy has been very good so far, just likes to wipe out, scrape knees, bang his head, etc. And our girl is only 2 days old so no worries there yet!

Wait until you have four!!! It usually means that one of them has something at any given time.
My 5 year old has fibral seizures caused by a spike in fever temperature. Don't really want to worry anyone with young children but this can happen with fevers up to 5 years old. However, my guy is almost 6 so we thought he was past this problem. Guess not.
However, he's playing today like nothing even happened so that's a relief. Thanks for all of your thoughts, except Locke's (you bugger)!
Jagger, I can totally sympathize, as I have gone through a similar situation. It is hard for someone else to imagine the helplessness that you feel when one of your children is going through a seizure.
Our son started having big tonic-clonic seizures just before his 3rd birthday. Ambulance rides to the ACH and everything. His seizures progressively got worse, and subsequent testing showed that he had developed epilepsy. He was on anti-seizure medication for just over 3 years. It was a trying time for my wife and I, but we got through it. He is currently seizure free.
