Detroit went retro this year and decided to wear it on the left like they did pre-expansion.

couple teams have to do this because of the new jerseys and logo's being to big, and all the different panels the jerseys are made of. The All-Star jerseys for example. looks weird. no doubt. should be interesting to see the stanley cup finals crests when they come out

As was mentioned the Red Wings captain and assistants wear the letters on the right side. Zetterberg wears his A on the right side as well. They changed it up this year pre-expansion as was mentioned.

I thought they went to the left because with the new jerseys the end of the wing would have interfered with the letter.

i believe this is more accurate as to why they changed it this year. the tip of the wing would have touched the bottom of the C or A. i believe they actually talked about this on SN.

well, if it were maple leaf related, it would be the leading story on tsn, sportsnet and the score, as well as rampant speculation and discussion on various leaf nation boards around the world, and whether or not sundin would approve of it or waive his no-trade clause.
